I bought this specifically because it would occupy almost all of the opening for my fireplace, which has a damaged chimney liner. It works great for that, and I can store items in the fireplace opening making it a useful space again. The shelf is definitely not a great choice for very heavy items, but for display items, paperbacks, DVDs, etc - it will work very nicely. And it really has a unique size, I couldn't find anything else with these dimensions. Comparing the price of this versus something I might custom build to fit the size - no comparison really. Luckily I bought this for my daughters room and she is 6 years old and it’s perfect for her size. I was expecting it to be a bit bigger from what is shown in the pictures. The unit works for what we needed at an affordable price. Unfortunately, ours arrived with scratches and gouges on one board that were an inch or more in diameter and missing screw covers. It was too heavy to try and return so we assembled it and placed the gouged part against a wall. (The screw covers are not important to me.) I suggest you open the box immediately to verify condition. Our box looked good but apparently something happened, maybe prior to boxing the item. Not good quality control, if so. ... show more

putting this together in the beginning i thought what a piece of junk as it was flimsy but once you put on the top, bottom and sides it was actually pretty sturdy and not heavy . i picked it up from the living room and carried it into the my man cave with no problem i was waiting for it to fall apart. i put about 26 books in the bottom shelf and will put magazines in the baskets on the other shelf along with a stereo on top . for less than $50. i'm impressed . ... show more

Cute cubby for small child! Very easy to assemble and sturdy. Only gave 4 stars as the bins that come with it were no where near as bright/vibrant as in the advertisement photo. Granddaughter loves it!

The shelf is really good. I bought two of them to stack to hold fabric. But the bins are about as thin and flimsy as you get as the ones at dollar tree. They don’t do the shelf justice because it is really sturdy. But they work. I don’t expect them to go very far.
