For years our finicky cat has snubbed any type of gift that we offered. She has always been a bit of a diva and at almost 20 years old, she’s impossible to please. With the holidays rapidly approaching, I had no idea what an elderly cat might like (besides a perpetually full food bowl, which is her deepest desire and also not a healthy option for her). As someone who is always cold in the winter and desperately wishes for an electric blanket, I thought that perhaps a bed that warms her up might soothe her probably tired and achy muscles. There were options that were essentially electric blankets or beds for pets, but our girl is a delicate lady and i worried they would be too warm and/or a fire hazard. This self-warming bed seemed like a fair enough option and very affordable. I tried it out by sitting on it on the couch while watching tv one night and it did seem to warm up after a while. Satisfied that the bed did indeed self-warm, I wrapped it up and put it under the christmas tree for her. Against every expectation…she loves it! When she’s not snoozing in the top of her cat tower, she’s snuggled into a ball on her self warming mat. At long last, a humble offering has been not only acknowledged, but appreciated. I put this in my puppy's kennel because she gets cold pretty quickly. It fits great, it's incredibly soft, and I have yet to see her shiver while sleeping with this blanket. I'm not sure how chew proof it is because she's not too much of a chewer. My only issue is that I've had to wash this blanket multiple times since I got it (less than a month ago) because it collects a heinous smell very quickly. This smell absolutely could be due to my puppy peeing in her kennel, but I'm not sure if she actually does that. Regardless, I don't think it's the blanket's fault. I think all blankets would smell bad if they got peed on. Overall, I like the blanket, and I think the puppy does too.

I read many of the reviews and I believe some people didn't understand "self warming". This is not like a heating pad - the bed doesn't warm up. The cats body heat is reflected back up into their body to keep them warm. I have a 19 ye old cat who has always been tiny with no body fat so I got her a small one. She loves it since she can lay in the window again. Having that extra body heat reflected back into her helps her get up and walk easier with her arthritis. When she wasn't on it, my younger 9 yr old cat stole it and wouldn't lay in his favorite bed anymore. So I got him the large size and put it on his bed. He is using his bed again. My 3rd cat is new to the family and stretches out when he lays. No cat bed holds him. So I got him one of these to coax him to sleep where I have room for a bed. We'll see if it works or not. I also bought 2 more small ones to fit on the 2 window seats. It is cold there but all of the cats love laying there watching the neighborhood and soaking up the sunlight. These self warming blankets are great there. The side laying on the blankets is warm and the sun keeps the upper side warm. As for the crinkling noise, most cats don't mind it. Kind of like the toys that make the same noise. Every self warming bed is going to make this noise.

Got this a couple weeks ago for my senior cat hoping something that retains heat would be soothing on her old bones. I loved the idea that this was convertible and could function as a mat or a bed. Unfortunately she didn’t seem to care for it, which I thought odd because she’ll lay on anything- laundry, grocery bags, you name it. She’s finicky so I just shrugged and figured she needed to warm up to it. This morning I realized that she kind of skirts around it or runs past it- I think the issue was the long shaggy faux fur- it either scares her or she doesn’t like the feeling. As soon as I placed a towel on top of it she crawled right on.

I bought this self warming pad for my one year old litter mates I refer to as the Purr Sisters because they were always in my warm spot when I returned to bed in the night after a potty break. I hated to move them and I ended up moving over to a cold spot in my bed. This self warming pad was the answer to this dilemma. I put the pad on the cold side of the bed to start the night and the Purr Sisters never moved off of the pad the whole night. They prefer the pad to their usual spots on the cat tree during the day too. I may end up folding the pad up and putting it in away for the daytime hours just so they get up and move around a bit.

We bought the small for a regular sized cat, but when the kitty sits in this after placing it in a chair she likes, the sides of the mat point upward. We later came back and purchased the next size up and that one lays flat better than the small. Especially if you place this in a chair that already has cushions in it. The self-warming does work and the cats will use this, but not all the time. We're into February now, and it's about 50/50 with the usage. For crinkling sounds others have mentioned, this is minor in exchange for the benefit. Overall, happy with the purchase, but it would be better if the kitty used it more often.

A lot thinner than I was expecting, but very soft and the dog loves it. It is not advertised as a sofa cover but if you plan to use it as such, it will slip around very easily on leather. It is a blanket. Bought both the large and extra large. Can't attest to the waterproofness or how it holds up in the wash yet.
