Description

A squared toe and brushed-metal harness detail lend rugged character to this vintage leather boot. The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

  • Closer to true fit
When I opened the box, I thought that these boots were identical to a less expensive version I own. I put them on and the soles felt a bit hard. I installed cushioned insoles and it made the boots too tight. This was different from the other ones because the other boots were roomy without the insoles. I removed the insoles and wore them for a day and they wound up fitting perfectly. So, the Frye boots, in my opinion are closer to true fit. The leather is slightly softer, they dye does not rub off on socks, and they're a better fit. The Frye boots also produce a heavier "thud" when walking if that is something that you appreciate, which I do. They've become an everyday boot for me. ... show more

  • Excellent workmanship!
It’s a little tight but I figure once I start breaking it in it will fit just right

  • Very nice fit.
Ok, I wouldn't wear boots like this "all day"... but I've put some miles on these already and they really are more comfortable than I'd expected. Just don't put Dr. Sholes or any kind of "foot saver" in it. I tried that and I got blisters on my heals for two weeks. Bad idea. They broke in very easily and comfortably otherwise. Very comfortable boots. ... show more

  • On my 2nd pair
I'm on my second pair of these in 12 years. I loved them so much that I wanted a second pair. My only complaint about these boots is the size of the upper section. If you have slightly larger than normal calves, these are very tight. I have cut a slit in the back on the uppers to allow for the room. It doesn't seem like the size of the shoe changes the size of the upper section proportionally. ... show more
