I'm new to freeze drying and got this book to give me exact instructions and ideas for recipes. I am thrilled with all of the ideas! This book is detailed and tells you how to create everything from SCRATCH, even ice cream!! This is a legit cookbook, made for freeze drying. It also tells you how to rehydrate, which is a huge bonus. Of course, it doesn't come with every single recipe or idea that is possible with a freeze dryer but it covers so many basics and then some you wouldn't even think about to freeze dry.     • Recipes are missing information
I purchased this book specifically her to make dog food. Dog food variety one is missing when you are to add the eggs into the recipe. There are several others within the book that are also missing information.

    • Good book, but not as helpful as i would have liked.
This was a decent book and has some useful information, but not as helpful and detailed as I would have liked. I returned it and have purchased another that I absolutely love. But, the return process on this one was flawless.

    • A convenient new way to prepare foods!
Ive never tried freeze drying food before. I am an avid hiker, camper, roadtripper and all around traveler. I always like to take snacks with me but it adds a lot of extra weight when hiking. I've always been intimidated to try freeze drying but this is a good beginners guide on how to do it. I will definitely be trying these recipes, especially as the weather is starting to turn for the better in Michigan and I will be spending my time outdoors. I will come back and make an update on how it turns out. Great book for a beginner like me to learn a helpful talent. ... show more

I didn't know much about freeze drying before I picked up this book. The extent of my knowledge on the subject was the freeze dried food you always hear astronauts talk about. To my surprise, there are a TON of different foods that are great for freeze drying. You can freeze dry just a plain apple, but you can also freeze dry entire prepared meals and simply add water when you're ready to eat it. I'll have to invest in a freeze drier now because the convenience of freeze dried food for when I camp or go on trips is too good to pass up. ... show more

I haven't tried this method before but want to learn. This method of preserving food is becoming more popular with the uncertainty of the world today. It has a long shelf life and easy to travel with. This book explains how to do it, step-by-step, what foods will or won't freeze dry, and the tools needed. This is a well written book that covers the basics of preparing food that can be freeze dried. I enjoyed the recipes, and they are easily changed for my tastes. A good book to understand the process and to grow with.
