I gave it 1 star just to acknowledge the effort that went into creating this product. Look I’m not a guy who turns my nose up to non-alcoholic beverages. I can enjoy a Budweiser Zero or other non-alcoholic beer. So when I saw this product advertised, out of curiosity I bought a bottle. After all why not? Lemme tell you all about this. First off, as soon as you pull the cork out, the aroma is a slap in the face to all bourbons everywhere. It smells like the aftertaste of vomit in your mouth. So right out the gate things weren’t looking good. But I was committed to trying it out so I dug in and prepared myself. I put a large ball in my glass and poured this over it. I let it settle for a few minutes before taking a sip. Oh my god it was bad. I can’t put it any other way. It begins with a familiar oak taste but a second after hitting my tongue, there was that vomit taste again with a prune finish. I had to force it down because I didn’t want to be wasteful. A week later I thought I would give it another try. But after a few sips I gave up. I poured out the glass and poured the rest of the bottle down the sink. The whole kitchen smelled like vomit and prunes for about a half hour afterward. I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone. If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic bourbon, this ain’t it. In fact you may just have to face reality. Because I have zero faith in these products now. I’ll be sticking with the real thing and only the real thing from now on. I had hoped to dabble with creating a non-alcoholic Old Fashioned with this, but I think I’ll go back to experimenting with iced tea to find that proper fix. And I’ll stick with my Woodford, Buffalo Trace, and Bulleitt for myself. I normally don’t leave reviews for products on here. I just buy my stuff and mind my own business. But I can’t in good conscience stay silent. If you’re reading this, trust me. It’s not worth it. Find something else.

This does what it is supposed to do better than any other bourbon substitute I have found. If you are looking for an exact replica of the spirit, then you are going to set yourself up for disappointment. However, if you want to cut down on your alcohol intake, then it is worth a try. My goal is to reduce the amount of alcohol, not remove it completely. If I am sipping it over ice, I will mix it 50/50 with full-strength bourbon. When tasting on its own, you can tell it is not bourbon, but I was impressed that there is a smokiness in your throat as you would expect with alcohol and it has a slightly sweet, oaky undertone. For an old-fashioned, I would mix it 50/50, but if you were to put it in a coke, it would be very forgiving and would taste similar to a Jack and Coke. Definitely recommend.

TLDR save your money. If you like the feeling of being punched in the throat with pepper and enjoy drinking whole cigars instead of smoking them, this is for you. My fiancé and I were hopeful that we had found a way to share a drink together. He doesn’t drink anymore but liked the idea of sharing a drink with me with a taste-a-like. Unfortunately this is not pleasant in any way and we are keeping it as a prank drink. Or the ultimate bad drink in a drink roulette. The first notes when swished in your mouth simulate some of the fruity and corn notes of bourbon, which is quite pleasant. But then, when you swallow, you get hit in the throat with a capsaicin ash tray. A flavor that then infects the rest of your mouth. I’m guessing this is to simulate the “burn” of bourbon, but I have never had a bourbon burn me as bad as this. Not even the unrefined and unfiltered kinds. I’m honestly disappointed because I was so hopeful for this to be good, and somewhat comparable to the pleasant tasting notes of bourbon. But the attempt to (poorly) simulate the alcohol burn misses the mark and ruins the experience.

The flavor profile of this has changed a lot. What used to be watery, vanilla liquid now has a LOT of smoke (think smoke infused cocktail), and more peppery tones. Credit to the distiller for efforts on improving the recipe, hence the 3 stars. If you like strong, oaky bourbon, this may be an acceptable mocktail old fashioned.

I bought this as an alternative to alcohol earlier this year. I'm not a tea totaler but if there is something that can replicate bourbon I'm interested in it. This is not it. Frankly I haven't found any whisky alternative that tastes even remotely like whisky. So if you are actually looking for a replacement, well, you won't find it here. But it does have a mildly nutty and somewhat spicey taste. On its own it is a bit overwhelming but, surprisingly, if it is added to a bit of real bourbon it makes for a pretty nice cocktail. I'm sure this is defeating the purpose of a non alcoholic spirit but it can cut back substantially on the amount of real liquor that you probably would use in a drink. I actually like the combo, with a bit of orange bitters added . It makes for a nice, after dinner cocktail. Somewhat weird but I like it this way and am ordering another bottle.

It tastes of flavored water. I brought this product for someone who cannot have alcoholic drinks because of the medication they are taking, and they enjoy an evening cocktail. Luckily because this person cannot taste, they feel it is an alcoholic whiskey. What would improve on this product is enhancing in both flavor and viscosity. Why does the product cost more that alcoholic whiskey?

I was so hopeful. I’m not sure I can even describe the flavors. I’m a bourbon drinker (neat) so I wasn’t expecting it to BE bourbon but…. The first flavor was kind of a very watered down sweeter oak taste. Then a bitter acidic splash. It finished with an incredibly hot black pepper slap. Like liquified black pepper. So disappointing. If you’re a true bourbon drinker and are looking for something non alcoholic, this is NOT it.
