I recieved the pocket dictionary in a timely manner. I really like the product because I had one before but not with amazon. Overall, everyting was superb. I have nothing bad to say about it and I would recommend someone to buy this product. Although it is rare to find this one in particular. Thank you very much ... show more

Not satisfied with this product. Very limited word definition, uses the word searched in the definition itself.

I had read the reviews before I purchased it. English is my second language, but I've found quite several words that this dictionary does not include, for example: counterintuitive, uptick, intramural, vet... It will just say: Sorry, we can't help. Some words it just gives one meaning, like fallout, it listed only radioactive particles from a nuclear explosive, it does not give the meaning as a secondary and often lingering effect, result or set of consequences. I'm quite disappointed as I still need to use my heavy dictionary. The only good thing about it is the large prints. I can see easily. ... show more

I have never written a product review but I felt very compelled to do so after buying and using this product that had received such high marks. This product does not even contain the most basic words that a middle school student would come across in their daily work and I a very certain that this would be of no use to a college student. I read the review of this product that the university English professor had posted highly endorsing this product. This will be of absolutely no use to any college student unless they are looking up words like house, car, people, etc. This machine will not give definitions for many of the basic words that it can spell such as "compel." There are some good spell checks but this is not one of them. ... show more

  • Excellent for Students!
This handheld Franklin MWD 400 electronic dictionary is an excellent buy because it is efficient and accurate, as well as small and easy to carry around, and relatively inexpensive. It has a spellchecker that is comparable with higer priced, more elaborate electronic dictionaries; it offers several feasible options. It offers viable definitions for thousands of the most commonly used words. The purpose of the dictionary is just that: to be a dictionary - it is NOT just a spellchecker [which often is not helpful in other models] nor is it cluttered with a scheduler or other distracting major features: It focuses on words, their spelling, and definitions. This is a must for any serious student, whether college or high school. I am now requiring it for my college English students. ... show more
