  • business advice as well as photography tips
This is a walkthrough guide for the prospective wedding photographer. It is certainly very handy from the point of view of a entry level photograpger and a handy refresher for any more experienced operator. The guide covers literally all aspects of a wedding shoot, including tips to help pitch yourself and useful 'do nots' to assist the prospective photographer avoid losing a potential customer. I found the guide insightful to learn to take wedding shots (including a nice summary of all of the shots you should take). This was also useful from the perspective of business advice, even if that was not was intended, as he goes into a fair bit of detail on golden rules of conducting one self in the field of photography which could put a dent in the career of any aspiring photographer. Useful read. 5 stars. ... show more

  • Not good
I was very disappointed with this book. The sample pictures in the book are horrible!!! most look like they were done with a point and shoot...no creative control of lighting, nasty shadows behind subjects. Most look like they were taken in the 1970s. Forget your fancy flash bracket, learn to bounce and use natural light. I honestly could not bear to read all of this very short, poorly written book, because the pictures were so bad. I can't take the word of a photographer that displays that type of photography. I would be mortified if I had to give those pics to a client. He begins with saying he can't believe what poor quality is being sold as "professional photography". I am amazed that he pawns those images off as anything near professional and equally amazed that this book is sold as being written by a professional....of 30 yrs experience. also, someone being certified as a pro, doesn't mean anything. Now for the positive...If you are brand new to photography and are about to do you first (hopefully small, low budget) wedding, this book will get you on your way, but not very far. Never stop learning, experimenting, and reading...good books by real photographers. By the way, I've never heard of a bride's dad putting her garter on in the past decade or more. It's a bit creepy ... show more

  • Common Sense Advice for the Wedding Professional
Shooting weddings for a living is a high stress job even in this digital age. As the author points out, the wedding photos are the most significant tangible memorial the couple has of their wedding day. The flow posing technique provides an efficient method that balances the need to get the images that are important to the couple while still getting everyone to the reception on time. A great how to for the photographer just starting out and a quick refresher course for the pro returning to the business after a few years absence. ... show more

  • The Executive Summary of Wedding Photography Guides
Having a relatively small number of pages is not by itself a valid criticism of a book as long as one knows ahead of time how many pages there are. One does (via Amazon) before buying this book. Do note that the book has a much larger than expected font size than one would expect in a book of these dimensions (it has a relatively small page size for a book on this topic) and therefore has a lot fewer words than expected. Having only black and white images is also not a valid criticism since the points made by this book seem clear using only black and white imagery. What I think is a valid criticism is that there are too few images in the book. The title of the book is flow posing and the author explains the logistics of maneuvering people so that posing is done in a time efficient manner. The author uses mostly words to describe his suggested sequence of poses. This is where additional images should have been included in the book. Additional images with captions would make his written set of instructions for logistical maneuvering much easier to understand and made this book a good quick reference. With a large font size and relatively few pages, this book feels like a long magazine article. If the author had included additional images (as I described above) then I would have given it a 5-star rating as it cuts wedding photography down to its essentials fairly successfully. IMO, about 25 - 50 additional images is all that is needed and I'm sure the author has many in his archives that he could easily have used. ... show more

  • Excellent guide!
If you are looking to get into photography, specifically wedding photography, this book is an excellent guide to add to your library. I consider myself a beginner and this book has so many great tips on "flow posing" that I had no idea about. I see now that it is very important to have a plan set and to follow your plan when taking your pictures. This has definitely been one of my mistakes in the past. This is a great guide for beginner photographers. Great job Johnie! ... show more

  • Very knowledgeable author
I really did enjoy this ebook. The author is obviously very knowledgeable about his subject. • Not worth it.
This book is barely worthy of the name. "Overgrown pamphlet" would be more like it. If you've ever shot a wedding, you already know more than this thing can teach you.
