When Home Depot didn't have anything decent for around $30 (one floating shelving unit in either white or black), I found these for not much more for 3 shelves. This turned out to be the much better option. Lightweight, decorative, not too big or bulky.

It's about $15-$20 (retail) worth of materials. The mounting screws provided are drywall screws. The drywall anchors provided are not meant to be used with drywall screws but fine thread machine screws. So after dealing with that debacle on the first shelf I have one shelf that's not installed that well and the other two are installed with my own hardware. The shelves are light, which is nice. No concern there. The L brackets are L brackets...not much wiggle room there. It's what the wife wanted. So she's happy. If I had time I would have sourced and prepped all the materials myself and saved a bunch of money. Properly temper your expectations and you'll be fine.

The shelves did not come with pre-drilled holes or instructions on where the holes should be drilled. Then the anchors were huge and the screws much smaller, so when they were put up the shelves wobbled. If I didn't have a carpenter for a good friend, who happened to have different anchors and screws that would fit everything securely, I wouldn't be able to have any shelves. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
