I have mixed feelings about these shelves.benches. I bought the corner unit and an additional straight section. As a 3 shelf unit, I have a problem with the shelf spacing. I wound assembling them in different shelving variations. The first one, had the top, the middle and lower shelves. After seeing the spaces between shelves, the second one just had the top and lowest shelf. For me, unless you are just planning on storing flat items or lower height boxes or containers, I didn't find them particularly useful. In my opinion and needs, this version worked better for me. The third one, I just installed the top. This version was left so I store a lawn mower under the bench in the off season and still have a work bench for small projects and assemblies. I kept the depth of the .shelves at 24 inches, getting 2 shelves or tops from one 4' X 8' piece of plywood. Would I do it again. The honest answer is no. I would instead go with metal, rack style shelving and use pre-made, undermount steel work bench legs and a wood bench top. It might cost a litte more, but it be so much better. If you are budget limited, these aren't bad. The lumber costs were about $100/bench at this time and place. I went this route to keep it cheap and fast, my bigger project days are behind me.

These legs are well-engineered. but bring up the cost of making a workbench. I see no improvement in strength over 2x4 legs. .

I really liked how easy to work with this kit is - If I, a middle aged lady with a disability, can cobble this thing together, even the most inept home improver will be able to whip up this sturdy workbench in no time flat. I compared a lot of work bench kits of this type, and this one stood out as being the most stable and simple at the best price. Something to note: You must provide your own lumber to build this. I know it says in the listing, but it bears repeating. I was able to use some old closet doors and a solid core door for my shelving, though I had to buy the 2x4s. Since I skipped the middle shelf, it took 8 eight foot boards to frame this in at the size I wanted. Thank goodness lumber prices have started to drop. (not so Pro) Tip: Make sure you have the space to build this workbench - if you're building it against the wall, it will be an absolute bear to screw through the frame into the wood from that angle. I found I'd built myself into a corner, and had to use a pocket hole jig to attach pieces that were too close to the wall to screw in from the other side. Learn from my dumb mistakes! Also, make sure you have a level and a corner square when putting this together - they'll be your best friends. That and a power drill. And a miter saw. I have a lot of best friends, apparently. One more word of wisdom (?!) regarding building this kit. It may seem obvious what the next step of assembly is, but don't assume - look at the directions, or you may end up muttering curses under your breath while undoing pieces you've already assembled.
