  • Great binder, and ACCO stands behind its guarantee! Highly recommend this product!
UPDATE 3/2/2016: Roughly halfway through the school year, the binder was falling apart -- broken handle, binding by the zipper coming undone. I remembered that the binder came with a guarantee to last a full school year, so I contacted ACCO via email expecting them to tell me my child had misused the binder and the warranty was void. But no! I sent them a photo and an email with date of purchase here on Amazon, along with our snailmail address, and they shipped me a new one that arrived ~10 days after my initial contact. Very impressed with the company, and would absolutely buy this product again with confidence that they stand behind their products! (Original review): We're 2 months into the school year, and it's holding up way better than I expected to daily use. My kid likes it a lot. It holds EVERYTHING for school -- it's kind of amazing how much she crams into the binder, and she no longer uses a backpack! One of her classmates was over a few days ago, and her (cheaper & different brand) binder was already looking frayed on the seams and handle. That made me happy I'd splurged for this one, which was recommended by a friend. Very happy with this purchase. I'll try to remember to update this review at the end of the school year, too. ... show more

  • A well thought-out product with many great features.
Some people have had bad experiences with Mead Five Star products. I have not and have had various products by Mead Five Star since the late 90's. That being said, this is the best binder I've had in that time. I am a college student and my main need was lots of space for papers, notes, and definite durability. This binder has everything I need in a binder. The 2 inches of space for papers, folders, even notebooks is something that can be difficult to find in other "higher quality" binders. It also has a good built in folder system which is accessible both from the inside of the binder, and out. There is a wonderful pocket that is the perfect size for a graphing calculator such as the TI-83 or 84 (a must in college), and the built-in pencil pouch is a must-have. That being said, if stuffed full, it gets quite heavy, and can be difficult to fit into even the roomiest of backpacks, especially with textbooks and laptops alongside it, but I suppose that is why Mead Five-Star put the handle there for so it is not an issue for me. However, I can see where, in a careless moment, a person could easily ruin the zippers on this binder, especially if it is jam-packed with materials. This is something to be considered, especially for younger folks who are less cautious about their possessions or those who intend to be so busy they cannot take the time to close it without pulling. I did have some trouble with the zipper for the pencil pouch, but I was able to get it working correctly very easily. I can't really say much for those who complain about the handle breaking other than to contact MEAD's customer support or something. Mine is jam packed with school stuff and does just fine. In short, if you need the durability, the extra space and ability to carry it outside of your backpack with ease, this is the binder for you. If you tend to overfill pencil pouches to the point they're nearly bursting, buy an extra pencil pouch along with it, and you can't go wrong. ... show more

  • Has anyone ever gotten the Periwinkle/Lavender color?
We've ordered this binder twice and we always get the Raspberry purple color. It does last the school year, but only just. My daughter likes it, so Until she tells me to stop, this is what she's getting. It does help to wrangle so much of er stuff since kids aren't allowed to carry bags of any kind in schools anymore and they still have loads of books... ... show more

  • Surprisingly Strong, Yet Lovely, Binder
This is a beautiful, fabric-covered binder that can hold a large amount of paper and withstand many opens-and-closes. The binder itself is quite large and very strong—I didn’t expect the rings to be so strong and have such a sturdy grip to them. The fabric covering the binder is also thick and a lovely color purple. The purple has a deep, rich color—a true royal purple—that looks sophisticated and not at all garish. The entire binder is well constructed while looking and feeling like it can take a beating. I’m very pleased with this purchase, and I’m pleasantly surprised that a binder so strong could be so affordable. If you’re looking for a large, strong, and stylish fabric-covered binder, then this the one for you! ... show more

  • Quality
Great quality. A little pricey compared to others I saw but this was the color my daughter wanted. She says it’s a little big to fit in her backpack but that is a common complaint from everyone at school no matter the brand. Zipper closure works great.

  • FIVE STAR FOR THE FIVE STAR ZIPPER BINDER
This product exceeded my expectations! The fun pink print with the room and storage was perfect for my dogs medical records! The inside had tons of storage and space for everything you possibly need. I definitely recommend for anybody who needs storage for school, medical records, etc. Some downers are that sewing of course is not perfect and it may be challenging to open the binder rings. Overall this is a great buy but it would be better if the price went down a bit. ... show more

  • Stitching already coming apart
My daughter had this exact same binder that we purchased from a local store prior to last school year. It was a terrific, sturdy binder that held up all of last school year and half of this year. It just finally starting falling apart, so we went online to see if we could find the same one. It arrived quickly and was the correct binder. However, the stitching is coming out at the handle. It appears that the stitching was loose to begin with and we were shipped a less than perfect item. She's been using it for less than a week and after discussing, we've decided to keep it instead of messing with a return because she needs the binder and things she can hot glue it. It was just disappointing after having one of these already that held up well to receive one that is already coming apart. I'm giving it 3 stars because otherwise it works well and she can live without the handle if she needs to. I think if you get one that's not defective it will be a great product like our first one was. ... show more
