Description

Star San is an acid based no rinse sanitizer. Use only one ounce per 5 gallons of water. Star San is odorless, flavorless, and requires only one to two minutes of contact time. This product does tend to foam, which has advantages and disadvantages. The foaming action helps to sanitize cracks and crevices, but you need to allow extra time for draining. The foaming action is perfect for plastic fermenters. You can minimize the foaming effect by adding Star San to the vessel after the water has been added, and by siphoning as opposed to pouring the solution between vessels. Since Star San is acid based, contact with soft metals should be kept to a minimum. Kept in a sealed container, a Star San solution will stay effective for as long as three to four weeks. This product is only eligible for ground shipment within the contiguous United States.

I recently got into home brewing, and this came recommended by a friend. When fermentation is done and you transfer your liquid to bottles, you have to clean and sanitize the vessel you used for the fermentation process. Being that I’m a noob, I’ve got a gallon glass jar with a bubbler. After cleaning with regular soap and water, rinsing, and letting it dry, I use this no-rinse sanitizer as the final step in the cleaning process. Be very careful as this stuff, in liquid form, can damage your skin, your eyes, you shouldn’t breathe it in, and in general, be very careful when handling. Upon complete evaporation, it’s perfectly safe and doesn’t need to be rinsed further. It apparently loses potency and any toxic effects upon drying completely. Just ordered this for my brewing equipment and the ease of use is amazing. The amount you need for a gallon is so little that this bottle is going to last me at least a couple of years. What I love most of the internal reservoir to fill the amount you need, eliminating any other measuring cups. Just fill the reservoir in the bottle and pour it into the bowl/container and add water. The foam is amazing for peace of mind knowing that you cleaned every spot you need. And you can let it air dry and use it even if there’s still foam visible! ... show more

Great no rinse sanitizer that has never caused any issues. Comes in a bottle made to help dose properly. I use it when making mead and have never had unpleasant problems. It looks like a harsh chemical, and yes, the foam looks intimidating the first time you see it, but it is entirely food safe and won't affect the flavor. I’ve used it to sanitize 6 gallons so far, and have never had a negative outcome. Use a big tub that’s at least 5 gallons, so you can lay in big jugs and carboys. You only need a small amount, so this bottle will last you a very long time.
