I want to like this axe, I do! I have used it for almost three hours over two separate sessions. The good points, this axe splits wood! It is sharp and the weight distribution is amazing. After my first 30 min trial run when I got it was fun. I did not want to quit but it got to dark to keep cutting. This axe is everything they say it is. It makes lighter work of the heavy task of splitting rounds 24"-36" in diameter. Now the only bad point for me, a tingling in my left thumb. I noticed it after the first time and just shook it off as getting used to a new axe. No big deal. The second time I used it for over 2 hours. I split a lot of wood. Wearing gloves with it was not workable. It caused a pinching and began to rub a blister on my left thumb. I took the gloves off and kept going as this axe makes splitting wood as much fun as it can be splitting wood. The tingling in my thumb began to grow. It feels like just the last joint in my thumb is asleep. Now two days later the tingling is still there, but dimishing. This is supposed to have shock-absorbing properties in the handle. But, the end of the handle is hollow. It seems like my left thumb bears the brunt of any vibrations coming down the handle. It makes it unusable for me. EDIT: I did not return the axe as I thought I would. I continued to use it and discovered the discomfort came from the gloves I was wearing. I changed to a different pair and the issue went away. This is an AMAZINg axe. I really like it. You can see from the pictures I have split a little bit of wood since I got it. It has kept a very sharp edges. I have not had to sharpen it and it still cuts though oak and hickory like butter. It has great weight distribution. And after changing gloves I can split till my I just run out of time and have a good bit of work to show for it. I like this axe! I have paired it with the 6.5 lb maul. This spliting axe is well designed, it comes with a protective composite axe head cover and is weighted and designed for the job its made for. The handle is comfortable to hold and it splits wood well, as long as your are doing it correctly, you can't hit a log especially a bigger one dead center straight on and expect results, you won't get results from anything but a hydrolic, or gas spliiter that way. However, if you hit around the pith and use the correct angled strike the wieght and shape of the head will follow it through, no hammer no maul. And I am a 5'2" 155lb woman. This is by far the best splittng axe I have used in the last 30 years. Technically the correct length handle useing the arm length method shoud be around 26" i wanted the extra 2 ". am using it to split ash wood logs that are partially dry, ash is relatively straight grained thus some say it is easier to split, however, I spent several hrs last year using an axe from the local hardware store before i did the resurch and purchased this one. ... show more

Great splitting axe for a good price. It's a bit more expensive than some others but it is far superior. Worked great to split freshly felled cherry. I would recommend to anyone that needs to split wood.

Axe itself works very well. The shape seems to be very efficient and it splits better than larger, heavier axes and mauls I have tried. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the handle leaves something to be desired. It's relatively cheap, rigid plastic that doesn't really absorb any shock. I've had cheaper, lesser tools with less effective splitting heads that had more comfortable rubber-coated handles. I wish Fiskars would have designed a more comfortable handle, but this can be overcome with a wrap and/or padded gloves. ... show more

I bought this axe last fall and it's still holding up for me. And in the fall and winter I use axe almost everyday because I have a wood stove. I only needed to sharpen up the head once and it's still holding up. The weight and balance are worth to swing with. It's a great axe
