This is my first paper trimmer. I wanted something for light duty, general purpose home use with an inexpensive price tag. Fiskars is a familiar name brand and most of the reviews were positive. I also needed one in a hurry and this was available with Prime shipping, so I went ahead and ordered it. So far, it's done a great job. Simple to use and the wire line guide is really helpful for seeing where the cut will be made. The swing out ruler is also a nice feature. I've used it for trimming documents and also for making greeting cards with 65 lb. stock. The thickest that I've tried cutting so far is four sheets of 24 lb. printer paper and the cut was reasonably clean. Not sure how much thicker it could handle without getting a ragged edge, though. The clear cutting bar holds papers in place with light pressure. The trimmer doesn't slide around on my desk top when I use it. This is so much better than trying to cut a straight edge with just a pair of scissors - I wish I had bought one sooner. Overall, I'm really glad to have this and would buy another one if I ever need to. ... show more

I finally bought this when my old paper trimmer broke. I love how the measuring ruler folds in to make it compact for storage. The wire in the middle of the cutting guide allows for EXACT cutting. In the first picture you can see the suede paper in the picture. The trimmer cut that easily as well as the lightweight chipboard underneath. It also cut light/medium weight cardstock and glossy picture paper which you can see in the second picture. I also cut a full page shipping label with no problem. ... show more

I always had a paper trimmer growing up. It was one of the big heavy guillotine types. Now that I'm in an apartment and don't have an office area, I needed something smaller and portable. I went through a lot of pages worth of trimmers and decided on this one. Not just because I'm familiar with the brand but because it has an easily viewable wire that shows exactly where you'll be cutting. A lot of the other ones didn't have that so you don't know where you will be cutting the paper. I personally will be using this to easily cut my coupons, pictures as well as documents. For my needs, this one is perfect. The paper clamp lifts up so you can easily side paper in and out and also give you an area to hold so you don't smudge any ink. It is very easy to use. Just insert the paper where you want to cut it, and slide the blade across. Overall, for me, this is exactly what I needed. ... show more

    • Very nice portable trimmer
I just received this and put it through the basic paces, and am very happy with what I see so far. I'll update if there are any significant changes when I put it to more practical use. tl;dr - I was able to cut precisely on a line without specific measurement; I was able to accurately measure a distance from the paper's edge; I was able to cut 6 sheets of paper cleanly; they advertise it for 7 sheets, but the 7th sheet tends to get scored instead of cut. The sheet count is questionable (maybe they somewhere specify a weight of paper for which it cuts 7?) and some specifics of the design could be a little better, but the cutline wire is a very nice addition over others I've used and it seems up to any task you could reasonably ask of a portable paper trimmer. Some more in-depth points: Before I bought this, I read through a bunch of the reviews, and want to address a couple points from the negative reviews... First and foremost: this is a portable paper trimmer advertised for "trimming office papers, coupons, photos and more". Now... I know "and more" is ambiguous, but I think given the general character of things it says it can do, expecting it to be good for professional card-making (to cite one example) seems like a stretch. With that in mind: 1) Distance Scale Issues There is a gap in the scale for measuring the distance from the cut line. The scale on the main body ends at about 3-11/16" ; and the scale on the folding arm starts at 4-1/16". (Some reviews claimed that 4-1/4" or 4 1/2" were not on the scale; at least on the current model as I received, both are on the arm's scale.) Also I saw at least one claim that the scale on the arm is not accurate. I did not find this to be true. The arm is "sunken" relative to the main body, so there is a potential for parallax and it could be hard to read the scale correctly, but it is not mechanically off. Again it could be an older model was less accurate, but I think it's more likely that the photo used to "prove" the scale inaccurate was taken at an angle that exhibited parallax. While the scale gap may not be at certain distance marks considered "particularly important", the gap does exist - as it must for this design of trimmer. If you need to measure a cut that falls in that gap, you likely will have to improvise. For one-off jobs that can be done. For jobs to be repeated frequently, it could get very tedious. Again note the type of job this model is advertised to do. And while the arm scale is not off, it is potentially hard to get a good reading. It would be nice if they'd designed it to be on level with the main surface of the trimmer's body. Still, it's a compromise in support of the small size - hence "portable" paper trimmer. It may make accurate usage slower for cuts measured in that way, which again would be mostly a problem on repeated jobs for which a different class of paper cutter might be better suited. 2) A few reviewers were unhappy that the cutline is in the middle of the plastic part that pins the paper down, rather than at one side or the other. I found this to be a huge advantage, in that the paper is held in place on both sides of the cutline (unless trimming right at the edge of the paper). The supposed drawback is that you wouldn't be able to see where the cut would be, but there is a wire running pretty precisely over the blade path - and as a result I can use this trimmer more precisely than the previous one I had (which had the cutline off to the side of the plastic). 3) There were complaints about flimsy construction. I guess you're going to get that with any light-weight plastic product, but... well, it's designed to be light weight. Again: "portable". If you're of the mind that everything has to be made of solid steel to be considered sturdy, then maybe this isn't for you; but it seems suited to stand up to the wear and tear of cutting through a few sheets of paper. Bottom line: if the measuring arm were a little better designed to make accurate measurements easier, and if the advertising set clearer expectations about page count, this would probably be a 5-star review. It's still a huge step up from other inexpensive portable trimmers I've used. ... show more

    • A masterpiece of efficiency and functionality
I purchased this paper trimmer to help my younger son with a school project. We had a lot of various sized color print-outs that needed to be mounted to a Styrofoam presentation board. Cutting 20#, 8-1/2 x 11" stock, this trimmer performed flawlessly. We didn't have the need to cut multiple sheets at the same time, so I can't offer feedback on that usage, but I think that type of cutting is outside of this tools intended function. The SureCut was very easy to line up the cut lines, have the cutter follow the intended path. Unlike older style paper cutters that have the long blade that's brought down to shear the paper, this cutter tracks the intended line like it's on rails. The older shear style of cutters tend to draw the piece being cut, closer to the cutter. You simply don't have that negative mechanism at work with this design. The Fiskars SureCut is also inherently save to use, because the small cutter is located "under" the orange slide, and only protrudes a small amount. After watching for a short while I let my 8-year old boy make a few cuts, which I could never do with a larger shear style of paper cutter. Additionally, the SureCut is small enough to easily store until it's needed again. Great design; flawless operation. ... show more

    • This is the best paper trimmer I have ever bought
This is the best paper trimmer I have ever bought, the price is beyond good and even though it can cut full-size paper, it folds down and can be stored in a drawer. I am not sure how well it will hold up long term, but so far it's good and sharp and cuts very well. It will cut several papers at a time, but I mainly use it for trimming outdoor vinyl to fit in my Cricut Explore. It will cut up to 12” wide and has a slider bar that extends to 14” for even larger sizes. I love that I can just slide it out of the way in a drawer and it takes up so little space. Sometimes I do have trouble seeing the cutting line. Just yesterday I finished designing, cutting, and weeding a big custom decal, and went to trim the edges with this trimmer, and ended up slicing through the side of my decal…Starting over is NEVER something I enjoy. This is usually only a problem when I’m cutting white on white. So if you are using this in low light or with hard to see paper, do yourself a favor and get an extra little light to shine on it before cutting. It does give a nice straight cut, and it is easy to line up for perfect lines. You just have to learn to avoid user error. I would recommend this to a friend and if I ever need another, this will be a repeat buy. ... show more

I make paper crafts for an Etsy shop and this little cutter is essential to my business. Originally I was torn between this style of cutter and the more traditional style with the "arm" blade... and this was definitely the right choice. It's small enough to easily fit on my desk and complete all the tasks I need to accomplish. I will say that if you're looking to cut multiple sheets at once in a high-volume setting, this isn't the cutter for you. It can cut through a sheet of card stock or 3-4 pieces of regular paper pretty easily, but I don't use it for that on a regular basis. It's more of a precision cutter-- think for crafts or scrapbooking where you're mostly cutting one piece at a time but need to get it right. I also really like the wire that allows you to see exactly where you're going to cut, and the fact that the blades are easily replaceable. ... show more
