OMG this is a step up from grandpa's old style weeder. This tool effortlessly digs up any weed roots deeply and pulls the weed roots to above the soil. It is the best I've tried.

If you have a lot of weeks that you're going after this is likely not the best tool to use. We had a significant dandelion problem and I used the Fiskars 4-Claw Stand Up Weeder, which allowed me to go on a dandelion apocalypse - a bit exaggerated really, but true somewhat. I'd spend an hour or more w
ith the Stand Up Weeder going after the dandelions and usually within three days of going after them I'd have them in hand. Now when dandelions are in prime season I don't see nearly as many as I originally found myself dealing with, now it's onesies and twosies, and this is the tool I use. I leave it outside so I can get to it without going to my work bench in the garage, and if you know how to use one of these you can get at most of the root of the weed without too much difficulty. The Stand Up Weeder would easily, if I lined it up right with the weed, take out nearly the entire weed root (six inches or more, I've seen up to nearly a foot), with this you'll easily get at least half that, sometimes more, but from experience it's enough to take out the week and not have it return. Great tool to have handy.

Sturdy construction, comfortable handle. Does a great job of loosening packed/dry soil. Also works as a back scratcher. Not good for prying staples from landscape fabric (my teenage son found this out the hard way, so I had to buy this to replace the one he broke), but it's not meant for that.

Really good at getting tap roots
