These were very fresh tasting, with no "old oil" smell and no mealiness or stiffness in the almonds. The candy shell is pretty thick, but not a hard candy. It's easy to bite through and won't break your teeth. But these are not the type with the thin, crisp shell if that's what you're looking for. I got the 5-pound bag, which made it a very good unit cost value. The bag has a zip-lock reseal strip. I got all-white, and the color consistency was very good. The almonds are all approximately equal size. There is a subtle vanillin flavor (these use artificial flavor rather than real vanilla), but it is not overwhelming. Mostly just sugar and almond. Yum! These tasted fresh. They were hard (as expected), but I wasn’t worried I’d chip a tooth on them (a pleasant surprise, I may have only had old ones in the past). I’m impressed with the quality, as well. Very few were chipped or otherwise aesthetically not perfect (specifically, maybe 10 individual almonds looked broken or slightly imperfect out of 20 lbs of almonds). I have bought the 5 pound bag several times in the past and they have been fresh and great taste. The bag I just received tastes old, it doesn't expire until Oct. The candy is so hard it will break your teeth. I think I will try another brand.
