I have a few Lochby products and I have been very happy with them. They typically are quality made, well designed and meant to last for years. I do a lot of writing, usually in standard notebooks and journals, and I was interested in the field journal that the company offers. It is a good product and I am pleased with it. This is a nice canvas A5-sized notebook cover, and it is designed for the traveler and the outdoorsy type. It is made of waxed fine-weave canvas on the outside which is water resistant, and it has a honeycombed nylon-like lining that is also water resistant. All that said, this is not a fully closed or zippered journal cover and it will allow moisture in if submerged or held such that water can touch the contents. There is a nylon strap along the spine side, so it can be carried to minimize exposure. The closure is a substantial metal buckle. It's a little tough to get open and tougher to close again, but it won't wear out like an elastic band and it won't let go like some magnet closures sometimes do. The inside of this cover has pockets on either side. One side has one big pocket that's suitable for tucking in a notebook cover. The other side has the same but it also has a couple of smaller pockets sewn onto that, and those smaller pockets are good for holding smaller items like keys, a small amount of money, or writing supplies. The included notebook is a small A5 dot grid notebook with 72 pages (36 sheets). I put an Oasis notebook with 80 sheets in and it fit without issue and I was able to tuck the covers into the pockets. So, this cover is not limited to the smaller fillers that come with it. It will not work well with hardcover notebooks, though, as there's no way to get the outer covers in both pockets (it will accommodate one side, which may be sufficient). Other extras include a pen loop, ribbon markers, and elastic bands to hold sheets. I do like this field journal. It's a good product and it's designed to last for many years. I am hopeful that the company will release a full-sized journal cover sometime down the road.

I absolutely love my Lochby! It's much lighter in weight than my leather one AND fits much more! I currently have 4 notebooks and a study guide installed in it and am waiting for my new Hobonichi notebook to arrive and that will go in as well. I have room for pens, a slendy+ eraser, page tabs, and study cards and still have room for more! If you're thinking about getting one, just do it. You can always return it if it doesn't meet your needs but I'm telling you, it's worth it. The outside is constructed with waxed canvas and the inside with honecomb ripstop. The edges have double row stitching as do the buckle attachments so it's built to last. The paper is Tamoe River, I think 68 gsm, it's thin, and good for many fountain pens but check first with whatever ink you use. The quantity of paper in relation to it's thickness is my favorite reason for using this paper. The thin books with more pages equals much more writing for me, which makes me happy 😊

I also bought the tool roll which you can find my review of, unless Amazon is selectively deleting reviews...but onto better things! This I use most everyday, and it holds up amazingly. Could a cheaper item do the same thing? Yes. Did I buy the cheaper item instead of something that looked cool? No. It could use more pen/pencil holder loops as the 1 just doesnt cut it, and putting them into the pocket makes it close all wonky and they still slide out. Dont let the pics fool you, you wont put your cards, cash, and ID in this, a wallet this thing is not. Buy it, but realize it does the same j9b as one that is much cheaper. Buy it because it looks cool, it says, "I am a person who wants to look like they do rugged stuff that requires a rugged notebook holder thingy." Otherwise save your money, unless you want to look super rugged like me...
