  • Easy to Use, So You Will Use It Possibly Saving Your Life
I have used several fall prevention devices over the years when tower climbing. This FHFallArrest Fall Protection Rope Grab is very sturdy and well made. It is also extremely easy to attach to your safety line and convenient to move up and down the line when on the move. In my experience, if something is difficult or cumbersome to use you will be less likely to use it. So, that's a big positive. To use this device, you simply unscrew the knurled knob, fold it open and cradle your line inside, then close it and tighten the knob. It is extremely important to use the proper size and type of line required. Smaller or larger line, or line which is too soft or hard will be outside of the design specifications of the device. So, basically, it might not work as designed - ie, save your life if you fall. Once attached, you attach your lifeline to the loop. If you fall, your weight will pull a cam into the rope and arrest your fall. It also has a feature where if this doesn't happen for some reason, like you panic and grab the line the friction of the slide will also lock the cam. This is similar to the way an elevator self-arrest works. It is very easy to slide the device up and down the safety rope with you. As long as there is no downward force on the ring it will slide freely. This means it won't require your constant attention. But if you have an accident, it will catch you. I'd recommend investing in a good quality safety strap. Mine is a fall arrest line, with a strap sewn into a small bag in such a way as it will pull apart under your weight and gradually arrest your fall. If you have a solid line and you fall expect a very sudden stop, with the only flex being the stretch in your lines, which if using Dacron, for example, isn't very much. That can cause injury in itself. When climbing or working in high places you never expect to fall. But it is always a possibility. Not using a properly designed and rated fall arrest device can cause severe injury or death. It is required and a must in most professions and on most jobs. This is an excellent little device. it's reasonably priced and very easy to use. I like it. It easily gets five stars. ... show more

  • Great value for a well built piece of gear.
I was pleasantly surprised with this fall arrester. When it arrived it had more heft and weight to it than I expected and it feels like it is very well made. There were no tooling marks or burrs on it whatsoever. I tested the device in a controlled setting (a garage rafter) by hanging a foot off the ground fully suspended. It is so simple but it works great. I had success with a 1/2" rope for the test but I don't think I would trust it without the 5/8" line for an actual fall with full weight which it was designed for. 1/8th of an inch might not seem like a big deal but when a rope stretches under load, it might be just enough to slip and its not worth risking. I ordered this item for the sole purpose of doing maintenance work on my roof without the fear of sliding/falling. ... show more

  • Fast Grab
Generic design, but well-made of substantial steel. I found it reasonably accommodates a range of rope sizes above and below its nominal spec ... but don't take that too far. It has a very fast grab as well as an easy release, both of which are helpful when traversing a roof as rope manipulation doesn't hinder movement. I leave it clipped onto the static rope that I use around the house. ... show more

  • Glad I have, hope it's never needed
I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do something for which I am capable. I got a quote for some roof repair that had a lot more dollar signs than I expected. Their concern was the "pitch of the roof made the job more difficult so they had to charge accordingly". The hardest part was figuring out to what I was going to anchor. Took the lifeline rope (yes you need a special rope) and tied to my truck's brush guard and threw the other end over the pitch of the roof. Adding the arrester device isn't difficult at all (compared to making your own harness out of rope). My stepson and I had fun testing it by hopping off the second rung of the ladder. It does what it is supposed to do. I recommend a real climbing harness as every now and then the rope harness can shift and put a lot of pressure where you don't want it... Highly recommend if you're working on a roof or high up in a tree. This thing when used properly will save your bacon. ~Cheers ... show more

  • Doesn't get jammed
This rope grab works great, and makes my partner feel much safer when using it. It's an exceptional value at this price. He's certified in fall protection, with a lot of experience, and finds he prefers this style over the yo-yo types because there's less chance of things getting jammed. It allows him to quickly adjust how much slack he has on his safety gear, giving him mobility without endangerment. He can get the slack out of the rope when it's not needed, which prevents falling too far before the rope catches you. That minimizes fall injuries, and allows him to work comfortably at height. • Got for safety
I got this for my husband. He is a metal fabricator and he sometimes works on high beams. He wears a harness and I got this for added protection. It is very heavy and durable. It has a firm gripping brake and it seems like it will be very secure and be helpful if needed. Thankfully it has not had to be used, but I do feel better knowing that he has it. ... show more

  • Nice overall piece of kit.
I am kind of a newbie to fall protection equipment. Bought this for a spare to add an equipment lanyard to my line. ( I don't know if that's an OSHA allowable thing but this is to be used on my own property) I did however notice the screw latch to open the rope clamp is a little difficult to operate. After a few threadings in and out it works better , but seems like it should be smoother from the get-go but what do I know. Anyway, seems like it will do the job. ... show more
