I purchased this because the big box stores don't keep the longer sizes in-stock. My refrigerator is adjacent to a utility room that houses the hot water heater and I wanted to route the line to an unobstructed area in the room where I was able to install a quarter-turn shut-off valve with a 1/4" outlet. I have decent plumbing skills and easily did it myself, but for those who are calling a plumber to install a water line for your refrigerator - insist they do not use a saddle valve. I absolutely refuse to use the "cheater saddles" that pierce the pipe, because they are prone to leaks and sometimes do not turn off fully if you need to replace the line or refrigerator. I dislike copper tubing because it's so rigid that you risk kinking the line or loosening the connection when you want to move your refrigerator in and out for cleaning. It's also difficult to route neatly over longer distances. And I don't trust plastic. The flexible nature and longer length options of this type of line is so handy. I feel better with the strength and durability of a braided line. Just make sure you route the line neatly using 1/2" P-straps that you can find in the electrical aisle of a big box store (or you can order them on Amazon). Route the line using gradual sweeps instead of tight bends. And don't forget to leave some slack behind the refrigerator... This has been in use for about a week and we do not notice any off-taste, but keep in mind the water is running through plastic hoses in the refrigerator. When connecting these, remember not to over-tighten...hand tighten, then maybe a 1/2 turn with a wrench just to snug-it up (Use a 1/2" wrench - don't use channel-locks). NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price and have no affiliation to the seller. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. I notice many reviews lack helpful information, are not well written or give poor reviews based on not following directions, failing to read the product details prior to purchasing, inexperience or lack of skill.
