I’ve been using this manual lawn aerator on our yard and it has been surprisingly enjoyable to use. I put on some music and did a little two step dance while stepping on the pedal, and the time passes quickly. For reference, I’m 5'1" and about 140 lbs, and I’m still able to drive the spikes fully into the soil most of the time. Our yard unfortunately has some leftover construction rubble under parts of the lawn, so occasionally the spikes hit something solid. When the soil underneath is clear, the spikes sink all the way into the ground without much trouble. So far I’ve completed just under a quarter of our yard, and none of the spikes have bent or loosened. The tool feels solid and well constructed, and it has held up well to repeated use. Assembly was simple. My fiance put it together in under 10 minutes, and everything lined up without any issues. One thing I noticed at first was that the handles don’t have a rubber grip coating, so I wondered if my hands might start to hurt or blister. After using it, that hasn’t been a problem at all. Most of the work is done by stepping on the pedal with your body weight, while your hands mainly guide and position the aerator. I also appreciate that the aerator isn’t overly heavy. I can comfortably use it for about 15 minutes of continuous aerating before taking a short break, which makes working through the yard manageable. Overall, I’m really happy we chose a manual aerator instead of a heavier rolling version. It’s sturdy, easy to assemble, and surprisingly satisfying to use. If you’re looking for a simple way to aerate a lawn without renting equipment, this tool gets the job done.

I’ve been working on getting my lawn healthy, and right now it’s a struggle with all the brown patches and sandy soil you can see in my photos. I picked this up because I’m tired of the old-style aerators that make you balance on one foot. This one has a split design so you can actually step through the handle and push down with your whole leg. It’s a lot more stable and didn't bother my knees at all. It has 15 spikes that are about 2 inches long. To be honest, my other aerator goes down 5 inches, so this one doesn't get nearly as deep. But for just trying to get some air into the top layer of soil so the green patches can spread, it’s much faster and easier to use. I’m 5'10" and the height was comfortable enough that I wasn't hunched over while working. It’s made of heavy iron and feels like it’ll hold up fine. You do have to bolt it together yourself, but it didn't take me very long. If you've got really deep, packed clay, you might need something that goes deeper, but for just regular yard maintenance and trying to save your back, it’s a decent tool to have.

A pretty good option for aerating grass. Once you get it together, it is pretty easy to use. Putting it together was not super hard but instructions could have been better. The quality is fine for the price, I have seen much nicer but they would be double the price. I used this around our front yard after a good rain and then my husband put out fertilizer and weed killer. Excited to see how our yard looks after continued use! I would buy again.
