Skunk!
They look fab, fit great, get the job done. Love ‘em. Now onto the smell.... I really wish I’d read enough reviews to know about this before they arrived - it would’ve saved us some serious problems. So the day I unpacked the boots and put them by our front door, this insanely strong smell of skunk appeared from that part of our house, down the stairs and into our basement. It smelled awful - like a skunk had gotten trapped somewhere and was expressing its displeasure through its backside. We could not figure out what this smell was for more than two weeks (yup, it’s still here two weeks later). We accused our basement renters of smoking pot and quoted lines from our contract at them. They assured us they didn’t have a secret stash of marijuana hidden in their apartment. We apologized with brownies. Special brownies. Special ‘apology’ brownies. We then thought it was a gas leak. The gas board told us to evacuate the house immediately until a technician could come and test the gas line. Which we had to do in the midst of a pandemic, in our pajamas and in a snowstorm. It wasn’t a gas leak. We then thought maybe a skunk really was trapped somewhere. So we trudged around the house looking for any possible way a skunk could’ve somehow gotten in. There was none. Not to mention the fact that there was nowhere for it be hiding in that area. And also it would have to be pretty upset and have a rather overactive tooting gland to have sustained that level of smell for that long. It wasn’t a skunk. We asked the internet and the internet said it could be the emergency drain in our basement that had gotten dried out and sewer gas was therefore drifting up from the depths of hell to poison us. A bucket of water duly went down the drain. It wasn’t the drain. And still the smell persisted. I happened to be tidying the shoes by our front door today (two weeks later and two weeks into the smell) and smelled that smell again, but this time concentrated in one place. I stuffed my face into my shiny new wellies...and promptly withdrew it in horror and speechless shock. Skunk! I looked up my Amazon order and, sure enough, they arrived the day the smell started. And there were other reviews that said the same thing. Skunk. I haven’t the foggiest idea why they smell of skunk or what godforsaken chemical cocktail they used on these otherwise-glorious wellies to make them smell so epically bad, so epically strongly, but you should know, if you’re going to buy these wellies, buy a clothes peg for your nose at the same time. Or, you know, leave them on their own in the garage for a couple weeks to air out. They’ll simultaneously deter even the most determined of skunks.

Durable enough for my job

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Got these for work, I needed something to keep my feet dry while I deep cleaned about 20 dog kennels, hosed down the yards 3 times a day, and played with the dogs at the pool. I’ve been wearing them every workday for hours on end for the past 2 years! They’ve been great so far, I have replaced the insoles about twice but I believe that’s bc I’m stomping around hard surfaces in them for 4-5 hours a day. I have to replace the insoles on my other work shoes as well so it’s definitely a me being on my feet all day problem and not the boots fault. Fairly durable too, I work with small to medium sized dogs and they’ve survived the occasional ankle biter pretty well without a scratch. Overall the perfect boots for me :)

Nice Rubber Boots!

I got the size 8 in black. I cannot believe I waited this long to get rubber boots! They are so great when it's raining! I walk my dogs at night and I don't worry anymore about getting my gym shoes dirty, wet, or stepping in something. They are easy to slide on and off. I usually fit more comfy in 7.5 but I didn't see that as an option so I went with size 8. If I'm not wearing socks or thin socks, the boots are a little bit big on me but I just make sure to leave some thick socks inside of them before I put them on. I have noticed that they keep my feet nice and warm as well! I highly recommend these boots!

Narrow foot, wider calf

I usually wear a 7 1/2 wide shoe. After reading reviews of this boot, I ordered a size 8, in matte black. When I first put them on, the comfort seemed fine. Since I anticipate wearing them in situations where I have to walk or stand a lot, I then pulled the inserts out of another pair of boots and dropped them in these on top of the existing insole (nothing major, just one of those 1/8 inch thick cut-to-fit gel inserts that are $10 for 2 pair at the local superstore) to make them even cushier. But as I wore them around in the house for a while, a couple things began to bother me. First, they started to feel just a touch narrow around the top & side of the ball of my feet. Not enough to really HURT, but enough that I thought it would probably annoy me if I wore them for long stretches. Second, although I have a wide foot, I don't have a wide calf, so there was a pretty big gap at the top of the boot. I've already packed them to send back now, but I'd say maybe enough to fit my fist into? The opening of the boot rests in an oval shape (tall front to back, narrower side to side), and since thick rubber is such a stiff substance, this meant that with every step I took, the boot would shift from pressing up against the back of my leg to pressing up against the front of my leg, with the sides lightly rubbing along the side of my leg as they went back and forth. And although there was nothing particularly sharp or uneven around the top of the boot, that sliding action with Every. Single Step. began to get rather annoying. Finally, standing in front of the mirror, I also decided I wasn't terribly happy with the height of the boot from a visual standpoint. This may have been because in solid black with a little decorative buckle at the side, it reads as a "regular" boot. I might have felt differently if I had gotten one of the brighter colors that would read more as a "rain boot" (like in those nostalgic images of kids or young women with raincoats & umbrellas frolicking and splashing in puddles). Three strikes and the boot was out! I decided to try some taller boots instead. This company makes the exact same boot in a taller version that has about the same size opening, but hits closer to the widest part of my calf, and that's the one I ended up deciding to keep. No other boots I looked at or tried on quite fit all my criteria either, and I ended up deciding that for the price I could live with that tiny bit of squeeze around my toes, which only seems to be an issue later in the day anyhow.
