They leave openings on the side. Still better than what came with my Speed Engineering headers & y pipe. 2002 5.3 chevy 1500 3" exhaust MAKE SURE THE PIPES FIT INTO EACH OTHER. I tried linking 2 pipes using only this clamp and I had backfires lighting up the car of the guy passing me on interstate. I had to buy a 160$ pipe expander at harbor freight. Did the job beautifully I think grinding down the middle piece is necessary since the clamp COULD get much tighter. If anyone has tried it please put it in a review how it worked for ya ... show more

On the way home, my exhaust broke off about 6 inches past the muffler. Over the years I have tried wraps, other connectors, and just about every Youtube DIY fix out there for quick fixes. Most were more expensive than this product and fail with weeks. I was able to reconnect the two pipes on in less than 5 minutes and it is secure with no exhaust leak. A few months later, all is still secure and working great. I recommend this highly to anyone trying to stave off very expensive exhaust repairs. ... show more

Used these on my TSP longtubes and catted midpipes, 4th gen Ram 5.7 Hemi. 3” midpipes. All the connections are lap joints on mine. TSP supplied narrow bands and I was fighting a few leaks. Of the 3 leaks, these sealed up 2. I used these due to the leaks being at one collector and at both cats. These provide some serious clamping force thanks to my 1/2” impact :) I still have a slight leak at the collector on cold start that I am just going to weld and be done with it. ... show more

So this is a high quality product worth the price, I ended up cutting some off and using for a repair for a odd sized pipe because of the wrap I put on first, but they are really nice clamps and you get a sticker!
