  • 5.0 out of 5 stars I’m convinced this stuff is magic!
I’m a repeat EvapoRust customer because it works on ferrous metal better than anything else I’ve used. I restore antique tools and other metal items. Recently I bought several large lots of old clock keys weighing in total about ten pounds. Most were heavily rusted, but soaking them in a bucket of EvapoRust for twelve hours made the decades of old rust disappear. The clear yellow liquid was full of rust, of course, but the keys were shiny and clean. I don’t know how it works and I don’t care, so I’ll just say it’s magic. I also like that it can be reused until it’s no longer effective, but it takes months of my casual use for that to happen. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars It works
I used this on the parts of an old jack plane I picked up at a consignment store. The thing was very rusty, and the sole was pitted*. Soaking overnight in Evaporust removed all of the rust. It doesn't make the iron and steel bright silver; you have to sand it for that, if you want it. You can filter the solids out of the used liquid and pour that back into the container. NOTE: It's described here as "non-toxic," and Adam Savage goes on at length in his video about how innocuous it is, but the bottle I got has a prominent warning on the back (see the picture here) saying it can cause skin and eye irritation, and recommending protective gear. So you know. * I used some metal-repair epoxy (like J-B Weld) to fill the pits in the iron of the sole. After sanding it flat, it works fine. Doesn't make it valuable as an antique, because you can see the epoxied places, but I'm going to use it, not sell it. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Really works
This is hands-down, the best rust removal product I have ever used. Super easy to use. Just dump in a pail and throw rusty tools in there. I like to dig in the dirt and I’m infamous about leaving tools out and not finding them until the following spring, I have thrown away so many tools in the past because there was just no saving them. So I thought I would give this product a try and it is a miracle! I’m not kidding. After 30 minutes the parts that were immersed came out clean. The only thing I would say is I’m going to buy another gallon because I want it to completely cover. I have to turn my tools over for another 30 minutes with just 1 gallon. This product is a wonder!!!!! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great rust remover.
A little pricey but easy and safe to use. It takes a while (you can just leave it soaking without damage), but I like the way the converted black iron oxide brushes away after treatment. Plus, you can keep using it until the solution bears too much iron.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Does what is says on the tin
I saw some guys on YT and Full30 use this stuff, so I went after an ancient Mossberg 185K that had been allowed to rust like crazy. Wonderful stuff, eliminated all the rust entirely after leaving the barrel submerged for a few days. I'll be using this as part of my normal chemical set from now on.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Works on certain items others it might make worse
Worked on alot of bearings, bolts, assorted steel, and iron items, some though grew a type of black fungus after a while and some became more prone to rust after a couple days but in rhe end id get it, it works for most stuff

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Worked on Rusty Rotors
The product actually worked pretty well in removing rust from my F-150's brake rotors (took 24 hours of soaking.) However I needed 2 gallons of Evapo-Rust to completely submerge 1 rotor in a bath. At $25ish/ gallon it's really not cost advantageous for this purpose. Unless you have really high end rotors better off to just buy new rotors for $100ish each. ... show more
