I was hesitant to buy this as well as the essence lash princess mascara as I have literally used the same mascara since 2007 with no primer. However after I got sucked into wearing eyelash extensions for over a year, my lashes have some breakage, looked dry, and clumpy - so I decided to try something different. The first picture is me with no makeup on. As you can tell, I have very light blonde eyelashes that are pretty much invisible. The second photo is when I tried the primer on my lashes with no upper eyeliner. The third photo shows primer, mascara, and eyeliner with 2 coats of the primer and mascara. The last photo is my eyes with the primer, mascara, and a half lash strip- this is how I wear my makeup when I go out. My eyelashes after using the primer look great. They’re soft, they spread out beautifully and look full and long. I’ll definitely be buying both primer and mascara again, which surprised me. Give it a shot! :) ... show more

Since this review has to be strictly about the product and it's performance I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars. When reviewing a makeup product at a minimum level, I try not to expect more than what the product claims via label, titinstructions etc. The essence Volume Booster Lash Primer is one of only a few drug store price range lash or mascara primers still on the market that is effective at priming the lashes and not costing over 30 USD. It doesn't, however, provide noticeable volume even with two coats. For maximum efficacy I use it in conjunction with another primer and then layer mascara over both until I ave the length, volumeand definition I am trying to achieve. One tip I would give for using this primer (and most primers on the market) is to not let it dry completely before applying mascara or you will end up with stiff, crunchy feeling lashes. I think that is the number one reason people are turned off by mascara primers as the directions say to "let the product dry before..." when it should say "...let the primers dry for a few seconds but not completely..." The photo of my lashes is not optimal but I wanted to show what one layer (my right eye- left side of photo) and two layers (my left eye- right side of photo) look like with mascara applied over it and after wearing it for about 6 hours. ... show more

Forget that it's inexpensive. Just know that this is the best primer out there. I have long lashes but I'm older and they're not as thick as they used to be. This stuff makes them perfect and ready for any mascara. The best.

I read the reviews when I was checking this primer out, they were mixed. I thought for the price I'd try it. I did not like it at all very hard to get the primer off the brush. It's too thick , didn't like the brush either. You can't send back anything like this that goes on the face, eyes lips. I only buy essence mascaras. Since I found them a couple years ago, I haven't looked back. And to find out they have a primer?? Yeah. I had to grab it up. Needless to say it does not disappoint. I wanted to like it.. I'm a big fan of this brand and thought a primer would help my lashes stand out. I tried different ways to make this work but it always uncurled my lashes. It does add length though, so it gets points for that, but not for me
