  • DONT BUY!! Broke after three days of normal use
I ended up with 6 hours of use on this before the motor burned up completely. Pretty disappointed. So I contacted the manufacturer and was Really hoping the company will fix or send me a new one. Which they will but I’m responsible for the shipping. And I must ship it as it came, I can’t simple ship the burnt up motor. I live in alaska so the shipping will be half the price of the original item. I will never do business with Erie again. Ever. ... show more

  • Off Shore lathe
The lathe is pretty cheep but work OK, needs to be setup and adjusted to work better. The manual is very bad, very little information as to setting up or anything else. I found lots of info on the internet at little machines to hepl setting it up.

  • Securely packed - no damage
First of all: it arrived in a wooden crate, bolted to the bottom of the crate so it couldn't shift around in transport. The wooden crate was packed inside a cardboard box with several inches of foam around it for additional protection. All parts arrived with the lathe and nothing was damaged. Yes, you will spend hours removing the shipping grease. I recommend a gallon of kerosene and white Scotchbrite for removal. The chuck was not smooth but complete disassembly and cleaning solved that problem. The chuck jaws are numbered so you can put them back in the correct order. After cleaning, I tested the chuck for run out with a piece of drill rod and a dial indicator. The indicator showed +/- .004. Note, the drill rod was not true. This will be accurate enough for what I want to do. I recommend replacing the tool holder with a quick change type like this one: 7PCs Set 0XA Wedge Type Quick Change Tool Post Set For Mini Lathe up to 9" OXA TOOL POST ... show more

  • Mixed review on this one... maybe not for beginners
The lathe arrived quickly, and was packed well. However the left hand gear cover was badly broken in a few places, and the back guard was bent. None of these were showstoppers though. Also the belt was very loose and had to be adjusted before using the high speed setting. The lathe ran fine for a few days and I was very pleased with it overall. But on the 4th day of use I was performing a parting operation with 1\2" mild steel, and the work ran up on top of the blade (a rookie mistake). This caused the lathe to stop suddenly, and damaged the low speed gear inside the headstock to the point the low speed setting is now unusable. The high speed setting is still usable. After research, it appears the plastic gears buried in the headstock are the problem, and a fairly constant point of failure, and they are somewhat difficult to replace, although replacement metal gears are available from Little Machine Tools. So overall I like the lathe, enough to hang onto it and replace the broken parts. I was able to get results I am very happy with, and I suspect that any replacement would have similar issues to what I've experienced, so I don't plan to return it. Also most of the lathes in the 7x10-7x14 class are mostly identical in the mechanical parts, so shopping around may not be of much use. Just know that the gears are mostly all plastic, especially the ones in the headstock, and you will quite likely have to replace these at some time due to their fragility. it would be good to make sure you can do such an operation before committing. ... show more

  • ... - poorly packaged for shipping but seller has been great replacing missing stuff and helping with minor issues
Inexpensive Chinese lathe - poorly packages for shipping but seller has been great replacing missing stuff and helping with minor issues. Great fun and does a surprisingly good job. Expect to spend time setting up and adjusting, and expect to replace gibb setscrews. All in all a great machine. Update 12-29-16 Lowered rating - turned it on and fuse blew, and now it keeps blowing fuses. Research indicates the motor driver is notoriously fragile and the mosfets probably blew. Contacted the seller about a warranty replacement board and... " This item does come with a 1 year warranty against manufacture defects so if you would like to send the lathe in to us, we will be happy to repair it and if it cannot be repaired, we would send a new replacement. If you do not want to send the lathe in for us to repair and you would rather change out the control box yourself, we do have control boxes for sale but in hooking it up yourself, it would void the warranty. " So after all the work i did to get this thing usable I have to ship a 100 lb lathe back instead of a 4 oz circuit board Such a disappointment. Mechanically the lathe is good after adjustment and running in the ways and gibs. ... show more

  • Customer service has been extremely helpful.
30 mins runtime and won't power on today. Not happy about 30 mins runtime for $850.00. Waiting on the return call from customer service. ----- Found problem... Now to resolve 1.7.19 Power switch has gone bad internally and parts are on the way. ----- Repaired and back in running condition. I am satisfied with customer service but these machines are very cheaply built, quality control is the major disappointment, not the seller. ... show more

  • Very good mini lathe for the money.
A good product at a good price. I like the 4" chuck and the lathe in general. Lots of information on line for setting up and adjusting. My lathe came fast in 3 days from the east coast and was in perfect condition. The packing is terrific with lots of foam packing material. My only complaint here is that the tools were all sort of tossed in and floating around the box, but they were all there. the chuck was in very good alignment and 4" is what I needed for the work I want to do. The quality seems very good for this price point. the motor seems powerful and the gearing is relatively quiet. I recommend this lathe and this supplier. ... show more
