Description

Ergon took it upon themselves to focus on all kinds of persistent seating problems in mountain biking. Based on the the great success of the SM saddle series now come additonal models for 2020 - further refined for even more comfort. The orthopedic foam is thicker, softer and creates a large contact area. Features a flat seat for dynamic sitting in different postitions without tilting effects. In typical Ergon fashion there are gender specific versions of the new SMC saddles, each one anatomically designed for fitting male and female riders. Womens typically ride with high pressure in the genital area, which is exactly where the specific relief channel makes things right. In the male specific model the pronounced, rearward postitioned relfief channel provided maximum relief in the sensitive perineal area.

  • Very Comfortable Saddle! (Big Guy Review)
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
Amazing saddle! Bought for my Peloton + Bike & another one for my Road bike. The width & length are perfect. Cushioning is just right, not too plush but still has enough to feel comfortable! I'm 6'3 240 for context. I love that the saddle contours down towards the nose of the saddle. So my perineum isn't getting crushed. I've tested out the WTB Koba & Volt (Wide Version) saddles but they were still too narrow for me. The cushioning wasn't much of a problem but the width was killing me. This saddle definitely beats both the WTB Koba & Volt saddles because one it gives your more width in sitting area, two the foam in this saddle is more comfortable but not overly cushioned which is what I love & three it's a longer length so you can change ride positions with ease. The WTB Koba is about a whole 1 inch shorter than this saddle. Volt is about 1/2 an inch shorter. I tested the ERGON Men's SMC Saddle as well but it was a bit too firm for me. ... show more

  • Seat make butt happy
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
Night and day difference. Zero numbness or discomfort on first hour ride. The seat my bike came with was horrible. Funny how you spend thousands on a bike and they still can't get a decent seat but this made my bike enjoyable to ride again.

  • The Ergon SMC Sport Gel Saddle makes long rides comfortable again.
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
Finally, a saddle that makes four-hour rides comfortable again. Don't know if it is just part of getting older or what, but none of my previous saddles were cutting it. It took several tries to find the right saddle. I read through Ergon's information and watched their videos about finding the proper seat based on your sit bone measurement. After a few trial-and-error attempts to get an impression in the cardboard, which I could measure, I determined that I did need a wider saddle. • Quality Control Issues
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
4.5 stars overall. My first order of this saddle arrived crooked, as though the rails were bent. Left side 3mm to 5mm below the right side. Pelvic tilt is no bueno, so I processed a return for replacement within one hour of receiving it. Replacement arrived two days later slightly twisted in overall shape, but good enough for me. The design has a mostly flat top surface that is slightly upswept to the rear. M/L size is working fine with my 125mm sit bones, but the base may be slightly wide for me. I'm getting very slight impingement at the hip/hamstring insertion when sitting to the very rear of the saddle. I'm considering purchasing another in the smaller size. The foam is firm and generous compared to a typical performance saddle, but not nearly as thick and supple as a casual comfort saddle. It is a good balance that leans much more toward firm performance than plush comfort. Think of it as a heavily padded racing saddle with a more flexible base. This is definitely not the saddle for you if you want a soft beach cruiser type of ride. This saddle has the best pressure relief channel of any saddle I've tried. No pressure issues for me with or without padded bike shorts. It is reasonably lightweight, though definitely not a featherweight racing saddle. It is maybe 100 grams, roughly 1/4 pound, heavier than most performance saddles due to the heavier padding, plastic base and steel rails. This is not an excessive weight penalty for a vast improvement in comfort. It has an attractive design that looks appropriate on a high end MTB or gravel bike. It is not clownish looking like a department store comfort saddle, and it won't ruin the aesthetic of your bike. Materials are of decent quality and appearance for a saddle in this price range. Nice subtle branding. It has no protective crash trim/features like you might find on other MTB saddles. Basic design. The price is appropriate for this saddle, though you are paying for design and engineering, not necessarily for high quality materials and quality control. My first impression when riding is that it is quite firm, wide and flat. Doesn't feel much different than a mid-grade saddle with moderate padding, such as the Specialized Bridge. I started to notice its benefits after about an hour in the saddle on my gravel bike. I had no numbness or sit bone discomfort typical of my other saddles. This saddle is best for MTB and gravel riders who do 2+ hour rides. Ideal for softening the ride of a hardtail MTB or gravel bike. Like most saddles, the tilt adjustment takes some fine tuning to find optimal balance of comfort and pressure relief. ... show more

  • Simply great saddle
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
I pretty blindly put this saddle on my touring bike before a big tour, having heard Ergon saddles were great and having found one that more or less fit my criteria on their website. 10,000+km later and the thing still looks new. It's pretty wild. I bought another one to put on my fun bike recently after fighting with the stock saddle for a while and I don't think I could tell the difference between the two -- they both look like they're straight from the packaging. I find I can ride all day for about a week on this saddle without needing padded shorts. With shorts I can ride more or less indefinitely, but it does get a bit painful after around two weeks. Nothing I couldn't work through, though, and even Brooks' owners will confess that they also deal with pain after many consecutive days of riding. Overall I'm completely satisfied and will probably continue to put these saddles on every bike with a more upright position that I own. ... show more

  • Solves butt discomfort
Color: Black Size: Medium-Large
This saddle works as advertised to minimize or even eliminate butt pain. I'm an older rider on a gravel tire bike and the local shop told me that many riders are finding this saddle the solution to painful rides. I bought one from that shop and another from Amazon for another bike. I usually position saddles level and found this saddle worked best for me if the front was lowered a little. And for some reason I cannot quite find the right position in the saddle when I first get on but it seems to feel right after 10 minutes or so of riding. The shop guy said he heard that from others. ... show more
