Just received this as a gift for my wife’s birthday. Pretty disappointed to spend $120 for garbage put into a zip lock bag. I looks like it placed into the bag just after someone had their last cup of coffee. What a joke.

Purchased two ember cups for Christmas 2020. Three months later I noticed the side of the cup is feeling different on the edge. I noticed the edge is losing some of the copper paint. I emailed support about this. Of course we are easy on these cups with hand washing only. The support response was “it’s safe to use”. They offered a $59 dollar replacement. I responded “after only 3 months use?”. They obviously didn’t care about quality. Maybe corporate will read this and do better. Shame. ... show more

UPDATE: Well I've had this mug for several months now, and although it has had a few issues, I still really like it, and perhaps I was a little harsh with my original rating, so I've increased my rating to 4 stars. UPDATE: Just got notice of a firmware update, and, not surprisingly, it gets botched half way through. This is such an embarrassment for Ember. Come on guys, this is a basic firmware update, that just about every bluetooth device out there has to handle! Now my mug is stuck at whatever firmware it's on, with no obvious way to update. Awesome. Just to get this out of the way first, yes, we are in the realm of the ridiculous already, with a $129 coffee cup. Having said that, if you are going to pay $129 for a coffee cup, it better do everything... well... perfectly. This coffee cup does not do that. Besides keeping your coffee a constant temperature, it's important to know *when* it has reached that temperature. There is an indicator light at the bottom of the cup (which is nearly useless by the way if you're left handed, like me). Anyway, it will blink while reaching temp, and stay solid when temp is achieved. So I have to keep looking at it in the morning. And looking. Is it ready yet? Nope still flashing. You know what would have been a really effective design choice? A little beep or something. Instead, you have to set up a "notification" on your phone. This worked the first day, and failed miserably the second day. I sat waiting for it to go off, and finally turned my mug around to see that it was actually at target temp. So hard fail there. If the notification mechanism is not reliable, it's totally useless. A beep I would trust. Complicated bluetooth messaging just to tell me it's ready? Not so much. The mug is just a little bit too small, but I get that this is personal preference. The phone app is not great, and out of the box it's a little confusing, do I turn the mug on and leave it on? Do I turn it off each time after I use it? I googled this and of course found different opinions. This is bad. Anyway, for $80 I would not make much noise about these gripes. But for $129? Definitely. Finally, with regard to keeping my coffee a fixed temperature, yes, this part works great. I've noticed I'm savoring the coffee now in the morning. It lasts longer, as I no longer have to rush to finish before it gets cold. So no problems there. I just wish I had a reliable way to know when it had reached the target temp without having to keep glancing over at it. ... show more

its very good but after a while I'm getting a metallic taste in my coffee don't know of its from the paint of the cup something else 19/06/3031- Update after 1 year and 4 months: The mug has deteriorated alot due to regular use in only a year. the ceramic coating is wearing off from inside and outside, scratches appeared in the bottom from the spoon. very poor quality for the price that they are charging... ... show more

I wish the mug had a higher temperature setting as I like coffee hot. It also loses its charge fairly quickly and it does take significant time for it to recharge. I like the mug, but if he could keep the coffee hotter and recharge more quickly I would love it.

I purchased the mug as a Christmas gift for my wife. After numerous attempts to connect the mug to her phone we were unsuccessful. I read and followed the Ember troubleshooting instructions on how to repair but again, no luck pairing. I even tried pairing to a different phone. It still didn't work. I love this mug for the office. I am notorious for getting distracted or engrossed in my work and then 30 minutes pass by before I’ve taken a sip of my coffee. It’s great to have it still hot. I’d better be at my desk though with the mug sitting on the charging coaster. The battery doesn’t seem to last more than 45 minutes to an hour. If you expect to enjoy a cup of coffee longer than that I would simply recommend a thermos mug of some sort. I can’t imagine using this at home and being stuck in one location to keep the battery charged. Also, they amount of coffee it holds is really not that much. I liked the idea of being able to enjoy a large cup of coffee throughout the morning. Say for 2 or maybe even three hours. I would consider this a small cup of coffee. Kudos to the app though. This is my second ember mug and I love them. They keep your drinks at your chosen temperature for at least an hour. On the rare occasion that I use a normal mug, I'm always surprised by how fast the coffee cools off and by how much that changes the flavor.
