The Model:Samples is something next level though and really allows you to be creative, but also have the amount of customization and precision you'd want out of a sampler. The build quality is great, there's a ton of customization, and the sample space isn't an issue. I've tried countless samplers/grooveboxes over the past 12 months and they almost always have a few different problems with them, whether it is build-quality, lack of control, poor sound, or something. The only real downside and caveat to this one? You cannot sample directly. If that isn't a dealbreaker, get this.

I loaded my own samples even though the factory samples were great. Great for sparking new ideas and it works with Studio One Pro 5. The individual sound parameters on each trigger is my favorite, you can turn a 4/4 beat to something special. Swing is also great on it. This is a great product and easy to learn compare to my old Machinedrum SPS-1.

Do not consider this device unless you are planning to use it with an external midi controller. The track pads are so unresponsive that I sometimes have to press with my thumbs to get them to register. No, changing the velocity settings with the latest firmware does not fix the underlying hardware issue. It can be deceptive to watch online reviewers use the device in an apparently normal manner, but it is just that - deceptive. Somewhere in the mass-scale manufacturing process something must have gone wrong. Perhaps the resistive coating used on the membrane or the pcb had to change at the last moment before going into production. I don't know. What I do know is that such a product, as is, would have been dead in the water if not for an online review community that thrives on the monetization of positive reviews and a continuous stream of new and free products to review. It is possible that the major reviewers were sent customized hardware that enabled them to use the device in a near normal manner. But, even the non-velocity-responsive buttons/pads are lousy from a tactile perspective. Other companies had this figured out 20 years ago. It baffles the mind, really. Also, my unit has a bit of a 'skunk' smell to it, which I hope is just due to the type of rubber used and not a chemical spill of some sort. And, it has not properly powered up on at least one occassion, so time will tell if it gets returned. However, this is unrelated to the pad issue, since you can search on various forums and find the same complaint. Unfortunately, I did not see the extent of the complaints until after I had ordered the product.

This is a great tool for those looking to explore the workflow and capabilities of Elektron gear. Easy to use and fairly intuitive, for Elektron. I now pair this with my Digitakt.

I bought this, played with it for about two weeks, learned its limitations, which are significant. It also takes some getting used to despite its relative simplicity. It can do some things other little groove boxes cannot do (parameter locks for individual triggers, as well as tracks and whole patterns simultaneously or independently. I also like that you can change the sample for each trigger separately (but you are limited to 24 different samples per sequence, as far as I remember). If you want something fairly basic, but with a few unexpected and fun twists, this is kind of cool. I ended up stepping up to something vastly more powerful for about twice as much money: the Akai MPC One. To be honest, I wish I'd just skipped over the Model:Samples and bought the MPC One straightaway. Now that I have the MPC one, I am not evene using the M:S. Maybe at some point I will figure out a good work flow to use them both together.

The media could not be loaded. I absolutely love this sampler! Matches up great with my model cycles as well. Easy to add samples to the machine and get started making tracks.

I wanted to like it, but one of the buttons number 9 started to get stuck right away. maybe i had a defective unit or the design of the mushy buttons is not optimal.
