  • Good quality

This is a new lead melting pot, and I gave it to my friend to make a lead pendant. He really likes it and it's easy to use.

  • Not the best construction but works well with supervision
Color: silvery
My husband has been trying out this little 5lb melting pot from Molten Masters for barrel castings and he says that it's pretty straightforward and easy to use. It woks well with his cerrosafe low melting point bismuth material that he uses for barrel casting is melts fairly quickly. He likes the on/off switch located on the cord, but does say that he's not sure he'd trust leaving it alone for very long without keeping an eye on it. I'll probably update this with a video as I'd like to use it for melting pewter for sand casting. Overall, it's not a bad little mini forge, and is perfect for using on the low melting point metals. it should work well for anyone just getting started, but always keep an eye on it! ... show more

  • An economical electric melter that can handle a few pounds of lead without fuss
Color: silvery
The media could not be loaded. I needed something to melt lead used in body work. We have a large kiln and we have a small precious metals kiln. Frankly, we don’t ever have enough precious metals to warrant anything bigger. We needed something in between and used electricity, not gas. This was just right. This is the right size for melting body work lead and plumbing lead solder to pour into long, ¼-3/8” wide ingots. At hand, all I had was 1 pound lead ingots made from recovered bullets from a shooting range. I placed the heater outside. The fumes that lead can give off can be very dangerous and I didn’t want to trap that inside. The instructions said to preheat the pot about 15 minutes. The lead ingots can bridge the inside of the pot without touching the bottom. To get lead to start melting, it helps to have small pieces or to preheat the lead. So, I let an ingot hang above the bottom. I actually let it preheat over 25 minutes, while I looked for my cell phone. I planned on recording how long it took to melt. But with the extra preheating time, it melted very fast. I missed it. The second time, I preheated the pan for 15 minutes but dropped the ingot in cold. It took 10 minutes before it began to melt on an edge and another 10 before it turned to liquid. Preheating the first ingot really had helped. If I had used small pieces, it would have gone faster because the heat transfer gets to the inside of the metal much faster. But even about half an hour to melt a solid piece of lead that weighs a full pound is pretty good for something you can plug into a normal outlet. Having used a gas fired pot, I know that big pieces take a lot longer. We melted lead pipe and had a similar experience. We found that using a “starter puddle” made from small pieces of lead would make the thick pieces melt faster. And, the bigger the amount of melted metal in the pot, the faster the next pieces would melt. In the future, we will be tossing in stubs, filings, and recovered drops of “lead” from doing bodywork. The process will go much faster. Plus, the pieces won’t end up getting lost while try to collect enough to justify firing up the big kiln. I am very happy with this melting pot. You just plug it in, use it, wait for it to cool off and then put it away. It’s big enough to fill our needs and takes up about as much room as a work boot. 5 stars, of course. ... show more

  • Total waste of money! DO NOT BUY
Color: silvery
Bought this pot hoping to cast some fishing weights, but it never worked from day one. Plugged it in, followed all instructions, and... nothing. No heat, no melting, just a fancy paperweight. Contacted customer service twice—no response. Save your cash, this thing is junk!

  • Does a Great Job
Color: silvery
The media could not be loaded. The Molten Masters Electric Lead Melting Pot does a good bob at melting small lead items or other metals that melt at low temperatures, as tin or aluminum. As a scuba diver, I used to melt my own weight belt lead pieces using old pipe lead, a propane torch and mold. First thing I noticed and didn't like: a two prong plug instead of grounded three prong. But I liked an ON/OFF switch on the cable. Second thing was wondering if I had to remove the cotton that was under the heating coil, was this placed there for protection during shipping for the coil? Nothing was mentioned on instructions..But I found in description a mention of "insulation cotton", so leave it there. Before proceeding the melting process, make sure you are using adequate protective clothing, gloves, glasses and fumes filtering mask / and ventilated area. Lead fumes can be very harmful if inhaled. I tested the product with some fishing weights found while diving. The smelting furnace took about 10 minutes to reach a temperature of up to 800 Fahrenheit (see image) . Lead staring melting rapidly. It helps if you get borax, a stirring graphite rod and pouring mold (see image). After rapidly pouring the molten lead into the mold, some leftover slag was left over, it was easy to clean with a brush. I made a small video clip of the melting process. In conclusion, this melting furnace does a good job at melting small lead objects. If you have larger metal objects, I would recommend cutting it into smaller pieces for safer and quicker process. ... show more

  • Gets it done.
Color: silvery
This is a neat little lead melting system that seems to heat up fairly quickly and works decent enough. I would have preferred that the power cord had a grounding lug as well, considering the all metal construction of the heating unit.

  • Limited, focused use.
Color: silvery
This seems to be a very basic, solid unit that does exactly what it is advertised to do. Unfortunately for me, I have very little need and was hoping that it might have a more broad and basic use. In other words, could it be used in a situation where one was on limited power and using a generator? Yes, but for very limited use. It works good and boils water quickly, so you could always make tea or boil an egg. Seriously though, If you have a need to melt lead for fishing or cast your own bullets, knock yourself out. As far as price, I've seen it going for anywhere from 29..99 to 59.99. I probably wouldn't even pay 29.99, so anything above that is wildly over-priced. ps- it seems to take a long time to cool after use, so be aware. ... show more
