  • Hatched 7 out of 8 chicks. Don't throw away the styrofoam!
First, do NOT throw away the styrofoam as some may think it's just packing material. Use it to help maintain the temperature and moisture level. This hatcher is a no-frills one. It automatically turns the eggs for you, but has no temperature or humidity sensors, and so it requires some manual work. For one, do not throw away the styrofoam. High humidity can cause condensation to form on the eggshell. Low humidity during storage can make the egg lose internal moisture and kill the embryo. You can collect fertile eggs from chickens that live with a rooster, from breeders, or poultry farmers with roosters. The embryo still needs proper care when you get it -- Store the eggs in an egg carton. The smaller end of the egg should be pointing downward. Ensure that the container is in a cool area with around 55F with a humidity of about 75% (use a Hygrometer). You should not keep them longer than seven days, especially at room temperature. Even if the eggs are not yet incubated, make sure to rotate them once a day until you place them inside the incubator. You should set at least 6 of the eggs inside at a time. Chicks need to be part of a flock, and hatching with others is especially crucial for newborn chicks to be comfortable and happy. Whenever you handle the eggs, make sure you wear clean gloves or wash your hands thoroughly to avoid transferring germs or skin oils. Try not to keep the incubator open for too long. You can candle the eggs between days 7-10 to check and see if the embryos are properly developing. In other words, put a candle behind the egg to see the inside. If the inside is transparent with no dark areas or visible structures -- or there is a red ring -- it's a bad egg. If you see blood vessels (you should be able to see them between days 7-10), the embryo is alive. After 18 days, the baby bird will take up most of the space inside, and it will appear dark. Sometimes you may be able to see movement. Throw away broken or leaking eggs. On day 18, raise the relative humidity level to 70% and increase the ventilation in the incubator. The temperature should remain at 100.5F with no risks of fluctuation. Use the include styrofoam! Another thing you can do to help the baby hatch is to stop turning the egg. Leave it with the larger side facing upward. The air bubble on the wider side gives the hatchling space to breathe during the process. Inside, the chick will be positioning itself in preparation to emerge. By day 21, chicks will usually hatch on their own. After about 23 days, candle any unhatched ones to check if they are still alive. If there isn’t any movement, discard them. It is essential to let the newborn pip on its own when you begin to see cracks form in the shell. Do not try to help or you could injure or kill them! The blood vessels inside the egg need to be completely dried up for the baby bird to detach itself from the shell safely. It will typically take 5-7 hours for a newborn to emerge completely, but it can take up to 24 hours for some. Once all of them have hatched, you can lower the incubation temperature to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Allow the hatchlings to fully dry, and then move them into the brooder. ... show more

  • They work well
It's cheap, you don't get a ton of features but it does work. We bought two and have used them for 6+ months with no issues.

  • It works
Color: Gray Size: Medium
This is a great little starter incubator. I had a 100% hatch. I placed 2 turkey eggs and delayed placing 10 chicken eggs by 7 days so they would all hatch around the same time. The reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because of how hard it was to control the humidity. It has 2 ventilation holes in the bottom. I had to make two holes on the top to keep the humidity down during the first 18 days. I also used the holes to stick a hydrometer in it to monitor the humidity. I placed a piece of duck tape over each hole and removed it when needed as a way to control humidity. That worked great. The last 3 days- I left the holes open and poured as much water as the incubator would hold to raise the humidity and keep the oxygen level high. It worked great. Another reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the display screen ended up with water beads. I kept the Styrofoam bottom and cover on it during the whole incubation period. Overall, I would recommend this. It's small, cute, and with close monitoring- it works. I ended up with 2 turkeys, 6 Polish chicks, and 4 Wyandottes chicks. ... show more

  • Great buy for the price
First off the instructions are pretty detailed which I liked since some reviews said they couldn’t understand them or there wasn’t enough information. Following everything as instructed and so far so good. As far as the machine itself: a lot of people complained about there no being no way to monitor what humidity is at. Instructions state to fill a certain amount of panels in base in order to keep a certain percentage for humidity. First 7 days only fill the center bottom tray and day 8 you fill 3 base trays. Hatching period requires all trays to be filled. The unit itself does get a lot of moisture/condensation built up on walls but doesn’t seem to get onto the eggs themselves. Will update my review when it’s hatching time. Currently on day8/21. When I candled the eggs I did notice the eggs on right side aren’t as formed as the eggs on the left side which also seems to be the same side that has a lower temp Update: 9/12 hatched was very impressed with this little thing. First hatch day 20 and last hatch day 24. Cleaned out and 20 more put into it. it held a pretty consistent temp however all my eggs that didn’t hatch were on the far right row so seemed to stay cooler. ... show more

  • GREAT customer service and problem resolution
This is a good product overall . I wanted a small incubator mostly for turkey eggs. Started out very accurate, but the accuracy of temp declined over the last couple weeks according to an extra thermostat I added inside. HOWEVER, Grace, the customer service rep worked with me through all this and they are going to replace the unit . Meanwhile I did have some eggs hatch, though I had to monitor CONSTANTLY and was not at all sure they would since the temps were all over the place. In the end, I would recommend this unit , but watch the temperature carefully and know that they do provide excellent service to back up the product. ... show more

  • Gets the job done!
I'll start this off by admitting we bought this on a whim in the dead of winter after a hawk killed one of our favorite chickens and we had a few of her fertilized eggs on hand. We hadn't spent any time learning about the process and it's more complicated than just sticking eggs in a warm box and walking away for 3 weeks. PROS: Thankfully, this incubator came with a FULL guide - not just a manual on how to use the incubator, but instructions for every step of the process. The settings were easy to configure, the auto-rotate and candling light worked great and were very much needed. It seems like a short list of PROS, but for knowing very little in advance, we got 4 chicks out of a dozen eggs that we put in. So it works and is at a great price point. CONS: Humidity felt impossible to control. The instructions give you guidelines, but I found I had to add water much more often than recommended. It's also impossible to tell how much water is in there without opening because of the tinted top and condensation that accumulates. The temperature screen also filled with condensation by the end of the 2nd week making it difficult to read. There's a vent/overflow hole that goes out the bottom (hard to explain), so if you fill with too much water or move the incubator around and slosh any water, it'll leak everywhere. The venting clearly wasn't working great because the whole thing smelled like the bottom of an aquarium by the time the eggs hatched and there was visible mold in the bottom water tray. NOTES: I've seen comments about how the autorotate can injure/kill chicks during the hatching process. The instructions say to remove the black plastic egg holder that's attached to the autorotate pin when you approach hatching time which I think some people might be missing. Removing that and any undeveloped eggs at that point allows the chicks to hatch safely. ... show more

  • Pretty impressive little incubator
** Update: Hatched 4 chicks last night 4 of my eggs weren't fertile and had to be tossed around day 5 1 of the remaining 5 eggs died around day 18 but this incubator hatched 4 very cute, fluffy chicks. I plan on setting 12 more eggs once these babies go in the brooder. My only complaint during the actual hatching process is that the viewing window is pretty small But I definitely recommend this incubator for beginners ** My eggs are on day 4 and I see development in at least 5 of the 9 eggs so far. After reading reviews I went ahead and purchased a hygrometer to put in it. I followed the instructions for the amount of water to add and I think it was way too much. The hygrometer was reading 85% humidity and the eggs had condensation on them. I removed most of the water with a washcloth and just add about 2 tablespoons of water every day and it's been reading 45-55% The instructions are pretty good for the most part. This is my first incubator and I was able to get it put together and set up within a half hour or so. It is in Celcius, so that was a little confusing converting it to Farenheit It comes in a styrofoam box. KEEP THAT! It's not packaging, you need to place your incubator back in that to keep it properly insulated. The way the holes are cut out in the styrofoam, you can't take it off unless you unplug the incubator or slide the styrofoam up the cord. I just cut that hole vertically so I could pop it off as needed. It has a built in candler on the top but I ended up using my phone flashlight because it's hard to see with the lit up analog screen right next to it. It's also not the best candler for dark or tinted eggs Overall I'm very pleased with this incubator ... show more

  • Information before you buy
Love the product but does not tell you the humidity level and it does not have an air vent to open up when it gets too humid so it can air out just a bit to bring it back to the humidity that it's supposed to be I have to put a small cord to keep it a bit open hope all my eggs hatch will see

  • Decent, but malfunctioned
I was able to hatch half of my eggs, in this incubator over a period of 24 days. 23 days on and it worked fine but on day 24 my last chick hatched and the machine went a bit haywire, alarm and temp kept constantly fluctuating. I pulled the chick out early and warmed it up by hand. A few inconveniences aside from that would be: Filling the reservoir was a bit hard, especially as you must lift the lid and you can’t see where or how much you are pouring. If it overfilled it leaked out of the bottom and puddle on the floor. Also the lid doesn’t quite sit right, you must straighten it exact or else the heat will leak. All the eggs on the left hatched and the right did not. Not sure if it had to do with where the water built up and condensates on the walls and the fan position. Also the light on top, although bright, did not allow to see the inside of the eggs. I did like the rotator and the temps did work well for the first 23 days, I am scared to put more eggs in, I would hate for another malfunction. It does come with styrofoam to help maintain heat, it worked well. The manual was very helpful with tips to setup as well as a guide to humidity, temp etc. Overall it was decent, but I will test it out before reusing again. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
I bought this incubator because it had decent reviews. I now know that’s because they send you a $20 Amazon gift card if you leave them a good review. I am new to hatching chickens. I was in using this as a lesson for my son. The incubator was very easy to set up the instructions are simple and basic. The temperature seemed to stay even throughout, but I never put another thermometer in there to truly verify that. Only one out of 12 eggs hatched. They were all alive on day 18, which is lockdown time for chickens. I’m glad I removed the tray then because the automatic turner never stops. The instructions advertise it as a minimalistic intervention kind of incubator, but that’s far from the truth. I checked mine a few days in and it was completely bone dry. This in part is because there is no way to measure humidity unless you have a secondary unit. Also my lid didn’t seal properly and I had to tape it down. One review said they used the styrofoam it came with. It would have been nice to have some instruction of that but there wasn’t anything like that. I am happy that I got one chick out of it…But I am also disappointed in some of the flaws. Was an ok first experience but will be considering a better unit for future hatches. ... show more

  • Good if you use other thermo tools.
S the size of this little Incubator is really good. I am currently using it for quail eggs, although i am slightly worried about my hatch rate because the Incubator itself says that its 37.7, however the two other temperature gauges i have in there, say its 2 degrees COOLER than what the Incubator says. These are also two seperate brands of my temperature gauges. So if you purchase this you really do need other thermo tools inside. Including one that tells you humidity because the little screen does not gauge that. The turning system is really good, every two hours it shifts a little, i drew X's on my eggs and their always in a different place so i know its moving. You can see through the dark plastic but if you shine a light it is much easier, and sometimes the humidity can be hard to control, and since this Incubator does not have a small hole to fill without opening the lid, i soaked cotton balls in nice warm water and that really helps, there are holes on the bottom of this Incubator but i covered them with tape so no humidity escapes, because it was just having a hard time keeping temp and humidity steady. Overall, it is a good Incubator. You just need to monitor more closely than others with humidity control ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I liked this incubator BUT while they were hatching my low temp alarm kept going off because this chick kept getting caught in the temp sensor …. I HAD to open the incubator once to help get it unstuck … we’ll see about the hatch rate .. she’s the only one so far :-/
