It does work good on loose soil with no rocks and feels very solid, but the first time I hit a rock it dented the tip bad and after a 20' x 20' all the tips were curling inward and dull. It also struggles with compact soil, it plugs up quickly and doesn't go very deep. The round bar for your foot, while it is strong, it lacks a good size to plant your foot on. Trying to aerate my new home’s back yard. It confirmed I have a lot of rock and packed in dirt (not soil). I do see some improvement where I could dig in One small thing to watch out for: there are little plastic end caps on some of the screws. They can be knocked off accidentally by your arm when cleaning out the spikes. Not a reason to cost a star ... show more

I been using it for 4,000 sq.ft yard. So far so good. No bending or broken yet, it does the work. Just make sure lawn is well soak that allow the metal easily removed the soil rather than compressing further down.

Key to making this product work is keeping the tines clean. I got though my little urban yard pretty quick by dunking the tool in a bucket of water to clean the dirt every 7 or 8 pushes. Your millage may vary... Overall very happy with this for my small yard. Anything more than a couple hundred square feet would take a while.. ... show more

We have the red clay dirt which makes it hard to use when the ground is dry, It is best to use this tool after a light rain. This tool also works best when you clean the tines every once a while while using. We have a 1/2 an acre yard and it took a while to do the entire yard. Hoping this will help my thinning grass to flourish next spring. ... show more

This seems sturdy enough. As with most things, I worry about bending the metal, thus making the product less effective. You have to place your foot just-so, at least for me to not feel like I'm going to bend this thing. The weeding tool was a nice addition.
