  • Memory Booster
BrainBolt Boost is the new addictive follow up to my previous favorite games in the Brain Bolt franchise: Brain Bolt and Brainbolt Genius. There are three fantastic mental challenges in BB Boost: (1) a fun follow-the-light game with different speeds for different ages, (2) a fantastic sound matching game that’s unique and fresh, and (3) a reboot of the classic game from the original. BrainBolt Boost blows me away with its friendly new look, large buttons, an LCD readout and right/left hand grips. It is a wonderfully simple but can’t-put-it-down game system. Cannot wait to see what Educational Insights comes up with next for the range. ... show more

  • Basic memory game to keep the kids busy
I do like concept of the game but its fairly basic for adults as the games are fairly easy, but for my kids they enjoy the concept of the game and how repetitive it is. As for he controller itself, it is fairly sturdy and is good for smaller hands as the controller is pretty small. Even how poorly my son has been dropping the controller, nothing broke off. The games itself does keep the kids busy for about 10-20 mins but that's better than nothing as they can use this game to improve their memory. ... show more

  • Have Fun While Boosting Your Memory
My 7 year old son received this gift and he hasn’t put it down. It is fun while boosting your memory. There are different levels of difficulty. I like that it improves your reflexes as well. The size will be perfect and easy for travel. I will definitely buy this BrainBolt Boost for future birthday gifts. I’m going to try it myself! ... show more

  • Not very challenging, may be best for young kids
I got this Educational Insights BrainBolt Boost for my 9-year-old son. At first he was excited, because it looks like Simon Says. We don't own that one, but I guess he's seen it before. But, after he played with this a while, he said it was too easy. I thought maybe he was missing something, because it was supposed to have three different challenge levels of memory boost and a sound duo game. He said it just goes on forever in marathon mode, but not really harder. After testing it out, I had to agree with him. The memory game isn't so much memory as speed pressing buttons. The different levels just give you less time to press the button that was lit up. The only times we missed seemed to be when it didn't register or we hesitated, but it's a short game unless you play in the marathon mode. Our family prefers games that are challenging but can be beaten. Sound duos is more of a classic memory game with sound, but since there are only 5 pairs to find, the game is easily and quickly finished. It's a sturdy little handheld game that would be good for travel, but I can't see it entertaining an older child or adult very long. It might work better for maybe ages 4-5. ... show more

  • Kind of basic and could use a volume adjustment, but good for younger kids
Brainbolt Boost is a unique looking game with kind of a retro vibe, if only that it's lights and buttons instead of a screen to play. Which is actually what I was looking for to try to get my son to do things that don't involve screens. First I played with it myself. Well, actually, first I found some AAA batteries and installed them, because there were none included. Then I played with it myself. I quickly found out it's really for the younger kids, but it's not without its merits. The sound memory type game is fun and something I can play with my son but it's over quickly. There is a game of which light was different and a game of which light was the newest one lit, that both can teach memory and coordination. Build quality does seem like it's built to last. It's all plastic but it seems sturdy enough to take the bumps, bruises, and occasional tosses across the room that come with the territory of being a kid's toy. I wish there was a volume adjustment and maybe a dimmer for the lights - on the games where all the buttons light up at once they are pretty bright shining directly in your face. But that seems to drive engagement for the little one - he who will also put his face directly on the tablet when he gets to have screen time. So let him have that. ... show more

  • Love this!
I have 3 kids, 12, 10, and 7 and they all pick it up to play! Once someone starts, the others ask to hand it over. My little one gets so excited to see how many she gets right! They all try to beat each other's score in this fun memory game. Also easy to use and to learn how to play. Love it!

  • Fun for short bursts
This memory toy is fun for a bit but it gets boring fast. The game takes AAA batteries, not included, and it has three modes of play with multiple levels. The only one I really found interesting was marathon mode because the others are very simple and easy. You simply press the buttons quick enough to rack up your score. The sound is very loud but you can turn it off. It would be nice if you could just turn it down instead. My main issue is that the lights are super bright to the point they actually bother my eyes if I try to play for too long. This is another area where a brightness toggle may be useful. In summary, it is fun to play but it does get boring and is too bright for long use. ... show more
