  • Holy Grail Moisturizer for Rosacea
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-3.3 Fl Oz
In seeing so many negative reviews I felt compelled to weigh in as this is my favorite moisturizer. I have very dry, menopausal skin. Additionally, I have rosacea which seems to have been a nice gift from said menopause (you can only laugh, right?). It's very common for those of us in our 50's to have a compromised skin barrier and when an issue like rosacea is present, even more so. Because of all this my skin is very intolerant to most moisturizers and nearly all actives (over the last few years I've had to discontinue my retinols and chemical exfoliators). While ingredients like ALA's, petrolatum, mineral oil, parafin/bees wax, and lanolin are well tolerated and known to be quite soothing, they don't hydrate very well as they are more occlusive than moisturizing. Enter this product. Magically, it does both! It's marketed as a protective cream, which again implies occlusive, but it penetrates like no other. Gone is the tight, dry feeling that persisted even when I had a heavy layer of product on my skin (my previous moisturizer was Eucerin Original Healing Cream -- which still has its uses -- because it was the only thing I could put on my skin outside of squalane oil during a flare). Now, no topical can cure rosacea. However, the right product can calm the skin, repair the damaged lipid barrier, and improve its appearance. This moisturizer does just that and it's become my holy grail. Since starting this I've also added in the Cicalfate Serum which has only aided in repairing my skin. Another Avene product that works great for me is the XeraCalm Balm which helps with itching. I use all three of these daily and they've really helped fix the secondary issues that come with rosacea. As for the complaints about it being greasy or too heavy. I can see this not working for people with normal or oily skin (or perhaps only in moderation). But my skin loves the heavier weight and because one of the ways I soothe a flare is to keep a tiny mister bottle on hand and repeatedly spray my face so I have to guard against the drying effects of evaporation. These products are so lipid heavy that I can wet my face all day long without worrying about that, though I do reapply throughout the day. As for the watery consistency issue, I haven't had that problem but it does caution on the packaging not to expose the product to temperatures below 41 degrees F (5 C). I suspect that if it gets too cold either because of the weather or because of whatever warehouse it sat in during transit it will separate. Maybe open the package and before squeezing some out look to see if it has split and then shake it up/message the tube. So, if you have skin like mine don't hesitate to try this product. I'm leaving this absurdly long review for my struggling brothers and sisters out there with rosacea in hopes that it provides some relief! Happy moisturizing, internet strangers. ;) ... show more

  • Fantastic for rosacea, PD, atopic dermatitis, dry skin
Style: Lip Cream 0.3 Oz
I’ve been using this for close to a year and it is amazing for my super sensitive and dry skin. I have perioral dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea and live in Minnesota with bitter cold and the heater running over half the year. Cicalfate cream doesn’t flare any of these and it helps reduce redness and completely resolves dry skin. I use about a pea size amount AM and PM,, apply to dry skin, massage in, then mist with the Avene thermal water spray. Although the cream is thick, the slight white cast absorbs within a few minutes. I do not wear foundation so I don’t know how this affects it.it doesn’t burn my eyes and I’m a contact lens wearer. A big tube of cream lasts me the better part of a year. ... show more

  • Best for Skin Purge
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
When I first bought this, I thought it had a weird consistency, as in, the water separated from the oil in the tube. When you tried to get product out of the tube, water would come out first. After using it for a while, I figured out that you need to massage the tube before pressing on it to get product out--that seemed to work. As far as the product itself, this stuff is fantastic for a specific purpose. If you use tretinoin or do skin peels and find that your skin purges, this stuff will speed up the heeling time. It's like nothing else. I previously used Vaseline to assist my sloughing skin, but this stuff is far better because it doesnt sit on top of your skin like vaseline does. ... show more

  • DO IT.
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
Friends, this is THE skincare product! This is like superfood for your skin. My skin is hydrated, DEEP forehead wrinkles are minimized, and my rosacea is the most tame that it’s ever been. It’s a little heavy so I use it as my night cream. After one week, I’ve tossed out creams from Beekman, F.A.B., and Biossance because this humble cream outperforms them all. I have combo skin with very few blemishes or breakouts, for reference. User note: shake the bottle before using it. The water does separate but you can mix it back up in your hand. ... show more

  • Works for my ROSACEA flare-ups
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
Expensive but one of the only creams my face tolerates when having a rosacea flareup! I usually can handle various creams such as: LRP toleraine crème, F.A.B. ultra repair cream, and Pyunkang Yul calming moisture barrier cream. But when going through a flare up, even these unscented and gentle formulas just make the stinging, itchiness, and inflammation worse. If I don’t manage to notice the flare-up flaring up (lol), these other (otherwise perfect, gentle) products actually give me the feeling of a chemical burn! Plain Vaseline is tolerated but does nothing to relieve the burning, cracking, peeling. At such horribly desperate times, I have only found that this (Avène Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream) or Aestura atobarrier 365 cream actually help to relieve the symptoms by calming the burning skin. At the worst part of the flare-up, I use a combination of the two products. The Aestura is less greasy and absorbs better — more like an everyday moisturizer. But the Avène Cicaplast+ really relieves the worst “burning/inflamed” symptoms—you get immediate relief, almost like a burn gel/ointment after getting burned. So I slather this on the worst parts of my face and it really does relieve the pain for a while (but need to keep reapplying). Since even 100% aloe somehow dries out the inflamed skin, making the situation worse… I really haven’t found an alternative product to this very expensive one, when needing relief. I always regret not keeping this on-hand when the flare ups come about randomly. Highly recommend for those who suffer from rosacea, but of course everyone’s skin is different. ... show more

  • Good for sensitive skin.
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
Good restorative cream. Texture is thick and smooth, takes a lot of rubbing in to get rid of the white cast. There is no scent, size is good for the price and a little goes along way!
