  • Eastrock, not "Beastrock", good instrument, LOUSY website description
I tend to review materials I can use with my elementary and early childhood music students. First of all, this poor bellset needs a new copy editor. Even the brand name is wrong. One star has been removed because, simply put, the listing does the instrument no favors. Hopefully this will be changed down the road. Having said that, if you get past that, this is a decent chromatic bellset, in a similar range to an alto glockenspiel. It's not as clear/pure of a tone as a good Orff glockenspiel, or a Pearl or Musser student bell kit, but if you want a $50 instrument for home practice for an elementary age kid who uses mallet percussion at school, a way for a piano student to practice their piece in a different way, an instrument for an older sibling to do the prodigies music program (bars are labeled, but not color coded. There in a color coded version of this instrument that may be a better fit) or to add a few instruments to a school instrumentarium to get an instrument in the kid's hands now, not maybe in May if the PTA fundraiser goes well, this is a good choice. It lacks a full resonator box, which means it's not super loud, and it is wood construction, not plastic, which is more common among less expensive glockenspiels/bells. This is NOT a xylophone except in the "every instrument with bars is called that" sense. But that's such a common thing in online store listings for anyone who isn't a music store, I'm not taking off for it, ... show more
