  • Much Better than Touch-up Bottle
Style: General Motors Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Victory Red
I scrapped the front spoiler of my car on a curb. Many white marks too deep to remove with scratch repair, rubbing compound, etc. I've used the small touch up bottles before for paint repair, but they are not smooth and leave obvious paint lines on the repair. Decided to do a full spray of 1/4 of the spoiler with Victory Red Dupli-Color. Before doing so I watched several videos on auto paint repair. A few points that stand out from the videos. Preparation is key. The paint area has to be degreased and absolutely clean. Light coats are better than heavy coats. You need to use primer and clear coat if you want a professional finish. To that end, I applied two coats of primer, four coats of paint, and two coats of clear coat. The color matched perfectly and from a distance you would not know the spoiler had been painted. Up close, the painted area is a bit higher in texture due to the 8 coats of primer, paint and clear, but I wanted to assure the paint would not peel, which is a common paint repair problem particularly on composite nonmetallic parts. If you want a smoother finish, a coat of primer, two coats of primer of paint and one or two coats of clear may work better. The paint itself is an exact match. I did not use Dupli-Color primer or clear, but rather a name brand substitute. This worked fine. If you decided to take on this project, make sure you have a respirator. This paint definitely has more fumes than regular spray paint. Also, paint on a day when you can keep you garage door open. I don't recommend spraying outside as this increases the chance of overspray. Mask off everything you don't want painted and tarp your floor as the spray will descend on a wide area of the floor. With a little bit of patience, work and adherence to directions, anyone can do this project. My guess for a body shop to do a similar project would be around $500, as they would remove the spoiler and likely paint the entire spoiler. Time and labor add up even on small repair projects. I know this from experience as the same car was t-boned by someone who ran a red light and the repair costs was $18,000, most of it body and paint related. I paid $40 for all paint and masking tape. Save yourself some money and do it yourself. ... show more

  • Good product but takes some practice and is finicky
Style: Universal Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Clear
Used to cover paint on hood of car to protect. Not an expert painter and was doing an artsy project since the car is old and starting to rust. Did the full gambit of painting, sanded hood, primed, sanded again, then painted with Dupli-Color and with other paint for design then clear coated...so here is why I gave this clear coat only 4 stars. 1. It is a nice clear coat but the can is small, wish it came in a regular size can so you have better pressure and so you can do more (I do realize it is made for touch ups). 2. The hood was attached to car and was going to stay that way for my project, hence to do the top of the hood I had to spray almost parallel to the hood and could not "angle" can very much. This required careful planning after I realized that when you get about halfway through the can, it will not spray nicely (at all) if not angled. The can would work great if you could spray perpendicular to the ground to the piece you are spraying. So that being said, had to spray all the flatter areas first with the full can and then progress to the parts where the can could be angled to finish the hood. 3. Read a lot about the humidity and about the hazing that can occur and it did happen. The humidity was only 2pts below the recommended humidity level but it doesn't get much better in the south...so you just have to go for it. Had better results with Sun overhead and humidity only 2pts below recommended level (not much hazing at all, if any) than late afternoon and much lower humidity 6pts lower (this is when I had the worst hazing that is now visible). When it did haze, I waited the recommended 10 minutes between coats and sprayed the hazy parts again, this made it go away...also did not spray as far away as they recommended on the can. Some of the hazing that I had also went away when it was allowed to cure for the 5 days but did have a "streak" left over from the haze that I did not go over (ran out of clear coat). Since I am wet sanding and polishing I am not too worried about it...wish I took a pic to show haze line but forgot to take pictures. Honestly, if I ever did this again I would probably look into how much it would cost to have someone clear coat it for me. 4. Wet-sanding now and it is looking good (not near professional) but what I expected so far. I am not done with project but about 75% done and am happy with the results so far. ... show more

  • Easy for beginners like me
Style: Universal Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Clear
First time repairing some small scratches over a large area. I used this with the same brand color too. You can see the edges where I peeled off the tape in photo. The tape left some residue I lightly hand sanded it. Should have sanded more over the deep scratches at top. Then used several thin applications of color spray. One spray at a time and waiting for it dry. It created a well matched color (toyota silver) and then added a few layers of this clear coat to give it a matching shine. Worked well! ... show more

  • Surprised, it matched!
Style: Toyota Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Classic Silver
Skeptical about whether paint from a can would match the factory paint. Prepped the damaged area and sprayed the paint. Wow, to my surprise, it matched incredibly well! I can tell if a color shade is off a bit and this wasn't. Highly recommend Dupli-color for small paint jobs.

  • Important!! How to prevent YELLOWING.
Style: Honda Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Taffeta White
Looked great but it turned yellow after applying clear coat. I sanded it completely down and did it again a second time. Its a lacquer base paint. I used Duplicolor acrylic enamel clear coat the first time and then Duplicolor 1K clear the second time which is a urethane base. Both reacted and turned yellowish. You cant sand off the top coat and save your base paint either. Its yellow all the way down to primer. USE Perfect Match CLEAR COAT ONLY. Both are lacquers. Enamels go with enamels. Lacquers with lacquers. Urethane base Duplicolor 1k will yellow as well. I went through 14 cans of Duplicolor products to paint one bumper. Dont do what I did. It was a miserable experience. Trust me. I finally got it right and now it looks great. ... show more

  • Bad nozzle
Style: Ford Size: 8 Ounce (Pack of 1) Color: Silver Frost
Nozzle was not good, splatter paint, replaced nozzle with one from another can, worked fine, after losing a large amount of paint trying to solve the issue.
