I started using these types of anchors some time ago, when I was living in apartments and didn't want to make large holes in the wall, and still do for the same reason now that I live in a house of my own. Usually you'll see plastic versions, but I ran into problems if you didn't make a pilot hole large enough, which sort of defeats the purpose. That plastic tip isn't durable, so unless you make it so that the entire tip can enter, it will bend or break. So I moved to the metal versions, and haven't had that problem. The principle is the same, except you don't need a pilot hole. Use a drill or screwdriver to screw in the anchor until it's flush with the wall (standard #2 phillips works fine), then screw in your object with the included screw. These can handle quite a bit of weight, but because of my paranoia of not wanting anything to fall off the wall and break, I usually use more than you technically need. I've never had an issue, and highly recommend these, especially for apartment dwellers. To remove, just unscrew, use a little spackle, and back to normal. The hole left is minimal.

The plastic version of these was the first real improvement I've seen in a wall hanging in ages. Drywall has limited weight capacity, and even mollies pull out eventually. These allow the same drywall to carry more weight. The threads are designed to compact the drywall and hold its shape. Drywall varies from era to era, and among different suppliers, and different grades. I've been able to screw the plastic one into some drywall, while other walls require too much force and break the anchor. But THESE, with their aluminum construction, and industrial finish will torque nicely into any drywall I've encountered. The plastic ones were a better mouse trap, and these metal ones overcome the plastic's occasional breakage. I think these are a tremendous value because they give you much more confidence that whatever you are hanging will remain hanging.

These drywall anchors are serious business. Most drywall anchors of this style are made of plastic but these are some sort of Zinc alloy that are much more durable and sturdier than the plastic types. It comes in a very nice plastic case with a secure latch to prevent the anchors and screws from accidentally falling out. I am very satisfied with these anchors and have used them to hang up heavy wooden frames, air conditioning remote holders, and peg boards on my walls.

This can actually be screwed in without having to drill a pilot hole, whereas the plastic version of this anchor is hit or miss. Mine was pretty nondescript, the box didn't have any label on it nor was there a divider between the anchors and the screws like the product photo and other customer photo shows. I counted 50 anchors and 50 screws so at least that is correct. The screw head is small, it's 6.2 mm wide, not the 7.6 mm as described. The measurements of the anchor also don't seem to match. Mine is 12.6 mm wide by 41.5 mm long, instead of the 12 mm by 30.2 mm depicted in the product photo. I don't know if they're supposed to be this way or if I was just sent a very similar but wrong product.

I've used the plastic/nylon ones. These metal ones seemed interesting. Though I'm not quite sure what the advantages & disadvantages are. Having them in hand... They don't split and expand. The threads seem to be stronger, sharper, thinner. So that might ... help? The screw creates nicks that become threads in 4 spots on the inside. Better? Worse? I'll find out and update. Otherwise, seems fine.

I have been using the plastic version of this type of anchor for some time. Periodically, the anchor will tear apart while screwing into the drywall. I've only used a couple of these so far, but they seem to be a better option. I start a hole with a philips headed screw driver then push the anchor tip in a bit and screw it the rest of the way in. In my opinion, this screw style design provides a stronger hold and is a much better option than the straight edge anchors.
