    • Confusing emotions
So.. I just received my Dr. Martens Voss II Quad sandals and I have very mixed feelings about this shoe and will have to update once I've had/worn them awhile. I know Docs run big, but I am a true 8, so I ordered an 8, and it fit fine....sort of. I have a wide, EXTREMELY flat foot with a narrow heel, so, a duck foot. These were a little big across the top of my foot, but not too loose to wear, let's just say they're not as comfortably snug as I'd wish. The ankle straps adjust, so that helped...a little. If I keep them, I'll probably add strips of moleskin to the front straps to make them fit better. I got upset looking at them, not because they're not cute, they are the apex of good looking, but because I thought for sure they were not genuine leather, because they don't feel like genuine leather, they don't look like genuine leather, and they don't smell like genuine leather. This upset me because the description clearly states the material as "leather" and that was the selling point for me. My feet do best with genuine leather, and for the price, I expected leather. Hold up, because there are a lot of materials calling themselves "leather" that are actually PU (Polyurethane) PV ( Poly vinyl) Vegan, (idk wtf that is) but they're all plastic. SO..... I was pissed my Dr. Martens I traded a good sushi dinner and sake for were not made of real leather. So I had to do a little research. Turns out, they are PU COATED Athena leather. What is that, you ask? It is REAL, GENUINE LEATHER that's been coated with....you guessed it, plastic, to make it...smoother? More pliable? I don't know, but I can't decide how I feel about that. I almost returned them right away because as I walked, the right shoe made a weird popping noise I could feel. After a few more laps around my house, it has stopped, so.... I'm thinking I'll keep them because they are so freaking cute. Some may say $100 isn't that bad for a pair of Docs, but, for me it's a lot, so I really, really want to LOVE this shoe, but I may be compromising a little bit of comfort for a lot style here. Not the first time for that! If you're really particular about fit and comfort, this shoe may give you issues. My foot is flat, and it doesn't feel like the arch support lines up with my arch properly, however that may change with wear. If you want a strikingly stylish platform sandal, this is it! Update: So I have worn these several times now and they are definitely my favorites! They were a little loose on my foot at first, so I affixed moleskin strips to the underside of the straps and that fixed that problem. They have conformed nicely to the shape of my foot and offer just a little arch support. They give me height and style, win/win. I love these shoes!!! ... show more

I tend to wear mostly Dr Martens but have never really been a sandal girl. These might change that! They are super comfortable, go with everything and are much lighter weight than I would have thought. Very pleased with my purchase.

    • Could my seemingly endless search finally be over?
So far so good! I'll try to update this review after wearing them for a few more weeks. I'm currently taking the advice of several other reviews that I had read about Doc Martens. I am taking my time, to break them in, just wearing them, inside my house, gradually increasing the length of time, that I wear them. I have problematic feet & all too often I'll purchase footwear, being too quick to decide they are keepers, only to discover a few weeks later, (after I've worn them outside my home), that my feet are actually not loving them (or even liking them). By then I'm stuck with them, trying to re-sell them for considerably less money, than what I had paid for them! Because Doc Martens are not inexpensive, I'm trying to not have that happen with these! Also being slightly paranoid about jinxing myself, I will continue to remain cautiously optimistic that my seemingly endless search, may have finally come to an end, until I have worked up to wearing them around the house, for the better part of a day, without any protests from my problem feet, bad knees or tired back. I'm up to standing & walking around in them, for a couple of hours at a time. So far so good, & with not even so much as a blister! As far the fit, my foot length is about the equivalent of a woman's US size 7.5; my width is another story! Because my feet are fairly wide (they have been described as looking like Flintstone feet...lol), & depending on what kind of footwear is in question, I own shoes ranging from women's size 7.5 to 9.5, with the most comfortable pair being some women's size 9, Skechers, work boots. I had really struggled with what size Doc Martens I should order & finally settled on the women's size 8. That was definitely the right choice for me! The length is perfect & width wise, I have plenty of room! Because a good part of my decision to try these sandals out, had been based on several reviews that I read about Doc Martens, I hope my review might offer further insight and/or help clear up some of the questions, that I was still struggling with, when I placed my order! ... show more
