Description

This is a winter twist on the classic Dr. Martens 8-eye boot. The Serena has the extra-tough, durable Ben sole: chunky grooves with bars and stars underneath for solid footing. Even better it's lined with soft, rich white faux fur. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Comfy and cute!
Size: 5 Color: Black
Good boots! I can tell they will need some breaking in. I will say that they seem to run a little small. I wear a 5 and sometimes they can still be a little loose on my feet. These are definitely not loose. I'm hoping they stretch a little so I can wear thicker socks. But I mainly got them to wear with tights anyway. So we will see how this goes. This is my first pair of Dr. Martens, btw. And thank you Amazon (Shophop) for the speedy delivery!!! I am excited to have these before Christmas. Edit: I've been wearing them and walking around for awhile. They are already breaking in. Amazing! They feel way less bulky than they look. The arch support, which is important to me, is fantastic. They really support my ankles as well. And last but not least, they are WARM! Good boots. The quality is excellent. ... show more

  • Same and comfort
Size: 9 Color: Black
These are such comfortable boots right out of the box. No breaking in necessary. I wore them in for days walking in Canada cold and snow and my feet were so warm with just regular socks. Docs usually run large on me but these were true to size.

  • Great winter boots
Size: 9 Color: Black
Very comfortable and versatile boots. You don’t overheat while wearing them and are easy to break in. I wear a size 8.5/9 in shoes and got these in a size 9 so they’d be comfortable with thicker socks. I got the all black ones with white fur lining.

  • Very cool!

If these are 'fakes' like some people suspect, then it's well done to the point of being worth just as much imo. I posted the noted stickers of concern that another buyer mentioned so people can see what they are (except couldn't get the toe ones out, but I wouldn't have even known they were there if someone hadn't said it and I really dony care). I'm not sure what the one means, but I'd suspect you don't usually see at least the other in most shoes because they're not furry like these. The symbol one might confirm that some of these could be quality control rejects, because I didn't see the yellow QC sticker anywhere, but those fall off easily and that was the only sus thing I could find aside from not getting an extra pair of yellow laces. My laces are a little thicc and did come untied once during the day - which, I recall my 90s pair never doing that. But those were direct from the UK and lasted like 20 years. I'm hoping the quality of this new pair will match up but only time will tell. The leather looks extremely smooth and nice. I may take a walk to the store and just do a side by side comparison, but I could only find this color in this size here. The fur does cover the whole tongue of the boot, they look dope. At first the toe arch was tight indeed, because of the fur. They're nice and warm and easy to walk in. The toe arch loosened up after one wear and wasn't noticeable after the second wear. These ARE a lot more uncomfortable in terms of sole support compared to my doc Chelsea platforms with air insole. Those have a rocking motion to the sole and padding for the ball of my foot. I put ortho heel slips in the heel for extra support on these, but because the sole bends like a normal pair of docs, I may need a full insert and am unsure if that'll fit. Hopefully I won't need to update this if the sole comes off or something wacky but imo these are super awesome lil boots. And I love the fur and pattern. ... show more

  • Super Warm

I bought these for a trip to snow and freezing temperatures. Never lost feeling in my toes once! And that’s usually the case, especially with regular docs.
