Back in the 80s, the 8065 shoe turned the tradition of impractical women’s footwear on its head. Fusing a classic T-bar fastening with a rugged AirWair sole, the well-trodden silhouette remains a favorite to this day. This edition stays true to the Original construction, with tough Smooth leather and signature yellow welt stitching. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Okay.. usually I say a lot in my review, but this one I am going to try to keep it short and sweet and hopefully address something you want to know about these Doc Mary Janes. I love Dr. Martens boots and shoes. It's about all I wear except for certain outfits that call for something a little different and more dressy, (however you can always take Docs and dress them up to fit you own personal style which is part of what makes them so great). On a side note, Mary Janes always have been, and always will be in style. My normal shoe size is an 8.5 women's. All my Docs always fit perfectly in a size 8. I recommend if you're a half size, size down a half size as these do tend to run big (even the women's and not the unisex which are even wider). Also, my feet are narrow and these shoes are not for wide feet. Sorry, I just am being truthful with you. If your feet are wide and you'd like these shoes, I'd have to say that maybe you should size up a half or whole size. These are definitely for medium to narrow feet. They are pure leather, and you'll note as soon as you open the box the delightful smell. The shoes are extremely well packaged. They are also so cute! Barefoot or with some socks, these are definitely going to look great and be prepared for compliments. I had a pair in white too and loved them but gave them to someone who was going to rock them.0 Docs always fit the way they are suppose to and don't vary. I only get women's size, not just because I'm a woman, but because the unisex ones are always wider and the sizes are hard to match. Just a tidbit for you, if you want boots I recommend the 1460 line and I'll share with you that the ones marked W doesn't mean Wide, it means Women's. I learned the hard way, so I thought I'd pass that on. Docs last a lifetime and then some. Yes, they are at a higher cost, but they don't need to be replaced and the more broken in they get, the even better they look. I will note that yes, they are stiff. But that's why you break them in. I also recommend protecting the leather as if they get wet, being pure leather, the drops and water will leave a mark. Guess this wasn't as short as I thought it would be. Sorry! :) I just have to represent for my favorite brand of shoes. They are so comfortable, even more so the more you wear them. The bouncy soles they are known for makes you feet comfy whether you're standing or walking all day. And I think that's it! As always though, this is just my 2 cents! ... show more

True to size. Beautifully crafted shoe/Mary Jane. Exactly what I wanted for my coquette aesthetic. Very comfy sole/arch support. The leather is mostly stiff on the buckles. But I’m sure they’ll loosen up in a couple of weeks. Good quality leather and a sturdy shoe that will last!

So far I’m loving them. They are True to size in my case. Did have to break in but out of all the Dr martens I’ve had to break in this was the easiest for sure. Love the cherry brown color. Have worn all day and still comfortable! Which is saying a lot for me because I have tender feet and the older I get the more I lean into orthopedic shoes but I really wanted to rock Dr martens this fall. Also these shoes are fun and a small statement piece, ya can dress extremely casual and they fit the vibe. One thing that I know no one that I’ve been using these religiously, they scratch very easily:( bit of a bummer if you mind, personally I like that look of character so I don’t. ... show more

I ordered a size 6 and a 7. If you are a 6.5 shoe size the 6 will be too small and the 7 too large! This was my experience anyway. Stinks for people with a half size foot. Wonderful shoes, wish they fit! Well made, super comfy and cute. My mom loves them and the 7 fit her so we kept them and returned the 6. She says they are comfortable, and loves the shoes. She says the fit, size, cushioning are all just right. Doc Martens will last a life time if well cared for. Get the kit and clean them regularly. ... show more

I have had these several days, walking around the house with thick socks. I am torn by loving them, or not. I have received replies on my question with regard to the "break-in" period; thank you to all who took the time to do so! Having said this, the T strap is a bit uncomfortable on the top portion of my feet. They do seem a bit larger than my normal size 8 but I could not go down a size, it would be too tight. I also understand that they are not made in the UK, I can order other styles from the UK but, the cost is prohibitive, at this time. The foot-bed of these shoes are the BEST! I have had surgeries on both feet, at different times and find it really hard to buy shoes that are really comfortable so, I tend to spend more on better quality, The leather is stiff but, I don't feel that is my real challenge - it is the style of the Mary Jane with the T cross over the top and the fact that the buckles do not have an elastic band, makes it a bit tough to really want to keep them. I cannot and would not, wear them without socks; they would be too big and too uncomfortable - if I could have the same comfort from the foot-bed within the leather itself, I would give these 5 stars. Still sitting on the fence, for now and, may order a Made in England pair for comparison - If you are debating, and can take the breaking in period, do not hesitate to buy these; Made in England or not - they are still Doc Martens! 3.2018 - returned the shoe, I just could not keep them knowing that they were not the correct fit.     • Softest leather but the COLOR tho...

If you're a regular Docs wearer, you already know this style is one of the more comfortable with little break in required. But the color is what drew me in. I thought it was going to be a powder pink- which I was good with- but when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Docs name the color "dusty rose". I can best describe it as thistle (the permanently discontinued Crayola crayon color) which is a pink with a dusting of purple to it. It's GORGEOUS! If you remember this color then we are at least a similar age. Thistle and periwinkle were my favorites in the box as a child. I was immediately transported back to my coloring days when I saw them. The Virginia leather is known for its softness and these were no different. If you love this style of shoe, this color is definitely a standout for the collection. I have a pair of 1460s I'm currently selling in a similar but slightly darker color. They are the smooth leather- which I hate- but purchased due to the color. With this shoe, I can let those boots go with a more than stellar replacement. Go on and just add them to cart sis. ... show more

dr martens is my fav shoe brand and I have been eyeing this style for years. They came on sale and I jumped on it. I am SO glad I did! These shoes are classic and cute and look really good with so many outfits. They took a while to break in, but now it's like they were made to fit me!
