Description

6 eye boot Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

  • Get a size down
Size: 10 Color: Black Smooth
I’m a pretty true size 10 but my toes were swimming in that size. Got a 9 instead and they fit perfectly. Definitely go to the Doc Martens site to see about caring for these though. Wear the big socks to save your ankles and use the basalm to loosen the leather.

  • Said goodbye to my pair from the 90s.
I love my new Docs! I finally decided it was time to retire my last pair from the 90s.

  • Good boots, good height
I own alot of Doc Martens but I can say these are my favorite (maybe second favorite) pair. The height is perfect, somewhere between a standard 1460 and a chukka boot. They hurt like hell when you first wear them (as most Docs do). I usually apply some leather honey (get it here on Amazon as well) and leave it on overnight to soften up the boot. After a couple wears they start to mold. I think I'm on about 5 wears now and they're starting to become glove like. Overall, can and most likely will be painful at first but will conform very nicely to your feet if given time. Doc's last a while (even these non-UK manufactured variants) and will love you just as much as you love them. ... show more

  • Good, not great
Needed a replacment for my 24 year-old Doc boots which I love, but have finally run out of life. These visually appeared the most similar, so I decided to give them a try. I've only recently received them, but these are my initial thoughts after wearing them a few times. Good: price (from Amazon with $20 discount) style & looks non-slip tread comfortable even after wearing all day Bad: material (they say leather) feels kind of thin & a little plastic-y to me. no 1/2 sizes and boots run big by about 1/2 to 1 size made in Thailand, not England ... show more

  • Almost exactly as expected
Product is exactly what you would expect from Doc Marten -- rugged, good stictching, sturdy leather. Once it breaks in, it's a boot you can live in. Very good for office workers as the traditional yellow stitching is not present in this model -- rather, there is black stitiching above the sole, so for all intents and purposes, this is just a rugged black shoe when your pants fall down to a normal level. Only gripe is with the insole. It was poorly glued on one shoe and started curling up after the first wearing. Not a big problem personally as I tend to put commercial insoles in every shoe, but was annoying. ... show more

  • These are high quality boots that look like they could last a lifetime
These are high quality boots that look like they could last a lifetime. Unfortunately, Dr. Marten's size chart is still not compatible with the American system. I wear an 11 1/2 W in most US brands; so for the Docs, I ordered a 12(US), which is a UK size 11. The length is OK, but these are too marrow and bit tight. I really like the product, but ordering online is hindering my ability to guarantee a good fit. I know several officers in my department who would buy these comfortable boots, but without trying them on, no one wants to spend the money. Hope this helps and I hope Dr. Marten will refine their US sizing chart. ... show more

  • break-in period
Great price! Great boot! Going on week three of mink oil rub downs, and break-in period before I will start wearing to work. Anyone that is considering these: Look is same as the 1461 oxford but as a low cut boot. These are lower cut than the 1460's Remember Doc's tend to fit odd for people such as myself that use a half size, I wear 9 1/2 or 10 depending on shoe maker, with Doc's, I use a 9UK (10 for men US) and use a gel insert for the correct fit. If I am not using the gel insert, I go down 1 size and have a longer break-in period (this starts out VERY tight but will break in just fine even with my wide feet. ... show more

  • Quality as expected
Size: 12 Women/12 Men Color: Black Smooth
Despite being the non-UK version, the quality expected of Docs was obviously out of the box. I used the wonder balsam, waterproofed, and shined them to perfection immediately. Looking forward to breaking them in!
