Description

The 1460 is the original Dr. Martens Boot. Made with instantly recognizable features: 8 eyes, classic Dr. Martens leather, grooved sides, a heel-loop, yellow stitching and a comfortable, air-cushioned sole. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 1460 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Understated leather tames the combat-reminiscent style of Dr. Martens's 1469 Originals 8-Eye boot. Looped pull at the back and signature stitching at the manmade sole. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

  • These are perfect!
I got these initially as weekend wear, but I just switched from working an office job to a relaxed job making soaps and standing all day 2 days ago though I got the shoes a few weeks ago. The floors get slippery due to all of the oil that I use, and I can say these shoes were so convenient to have for the job transition! I get body butter and oils all over my shoes and it’s okay! They’re hard to break in (I’m still in the process of doing it), but I’ve gotten compliments! I don’t know what I’m going to do when it gets hot outside again because these are a godsend for this job! ... show more

  • Doc Martens ~ Still the Best!
We've been long-time customers of Doc Martens ~~ many years of trial and error with other sturdy work shoes have been less than positive. The new Docs that arrived a few days ago are just what we wanted: solid, well-made, comfortable, and sure to be worn for years to come. Yes, Docs come with a high price-tag but they are, in our opinion, well-worth the money. Very pleased indeed! ... show more

  • Classic Docs are like no other boot.
First off, I wear a 10 and a half in sneakers. The size 10 Docs in the classic 1460 style fit me perfectly with enough room for thick woolen socks. If you are wanting to put inserts in them and are the same fit as I am, I suggest going a size up. I've worn various Doc's for twenty years, but this is the first pair of 1460's I've bought since the early 90's. I honestly don't know why I waited so long, I guess I just forgot how much I loved them. To those of you new to boots of these type, you'll need a few days to wear them in and get them molded to your feet. After the break in period, they become very comfortable, and they look iconic. As a footnote, I got fitted for the nylon Doc's as well (I'll be buying a pair shortly) and I had to go up a size to 11. I guess the nylons run a bit small. ... show more

  • Amazing Boot: Meets Expectations
I had absolutely no trouble breaking these in! I HIGHLY recommend you some sort of leather treatment on these as soon as you get them. Really work the leather and repeatedly bend the parts that will have to move when you walk. Then just wear 2-3 pairs of socks for a couple days and you should be good! I used Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP on mine which worked great, and there are other options like the Wonder Balsam from Dr. Martens themselves. There are a few imperfections and knick knacks that it came with, but they are hardly noticeable to others. They are very comfortable and look amazing. If you are considering picking up a pair, do it. ... show more

  • Lucky Pair
like the title says ,these are indeed a lucky pair of boots that were finished right though yes made in china, but so is my Squier and that turned out to be a great purchase, also it goes hand in hand that the fit and finish of te boots were quite of example ,the fit was true to my size as to many naysayers. Honestly i don't take them off unless I'm home. There was no break in issue to my experience. I honestly like the profile they give me as my apparel is quite simple yet functional ,I don't want to wear sneakers no longer just these boots ,I've come fond of how they fit to anything I wear. If anything I've yet to notice a defect but until then I'll stand by this review that these boots are quite the lucky pair, I'll buy the UK made ones someday. ... show more

  • Questionable authenticity
I have three pairs of Doc Martens I purchased from the store and they give me no problems than leather looks great unlike these that look like and feels like plastic. They left me with two open cuts on the back of my ankles I don't know maybe this is a different brand or series or something but these just don't look or feel authentic or real leather I'm returning them ... show more

  • Not True to sSze
I love this classic style of Doc Martens. I have been wearing them for many years. I always bought my size and they fit perfectly. Doc Martens were a reliable buy. But, I guess, times have changed for Doc Martens too. The pricing on these was great but they are larger than they should fit and will need thick socks. A bit disappointed. Suggest you consider buying a size smaller.. Would have given only 3 stars due to sizing issue but the price was so good compared to the $150 these boots usually cost that I gave them 4 stars. ... show more

  • Exactly what I wanted and expected
I've wanted a pair of Doc Martens for a while, and I finally got around to getting myself a pair of them; when I ordered them I was a little worried after reading a few reviews from people who allegedly received knock-offs. but I was relieved to find that when I received them, they were legit! They came in the Dr. Martens box, they had Dr. Martens printed on the sole, they had the black and yellow loops on the back, and the signature yellow stitching! I was also told that these boots are known for really pinching your instep when they're new and haven't been broken in, sure enough that was the case with mine, but I see it as par for the course! ... show more
