Both of my cats love this food! I purchased about a month ago and my 1 year old cat and my 10 year old cat come running for this high quality, high protein food! I perviously used science diet but my 1 year old savannah cat needs a higher protein food so after much research on foods that have quality ingredients and high protein I decided on this one and both my cats love it! Both our cats are old and need a high quality protein diet. We switched them to this food after trying every other type of vet-provided diet food: they wouldn't eat any of them. They loved Dr. Elsey's both in the chicken and the salmon, and ate so much more than before, it was amazing. They put weight back on and had not been this healthy in a long time. So until about a month ago, this was the best dry cat food out there. Then the last 3 bags of the chicken recipe came in bashed to a powder, dried out, with no smell at all--neither cats would eat it. Then recently the same thing happened with the salmon recipe, the kimbles look the same, but they don't have the same smell and neither cat will eat it. Did Dr. Elsey's make bad batches? My two ginger boys, Seamus, age 8, and Reilly, age 7, love Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein kibble. I use it as a topper for their wet food. Yes, it's expensive, but it's difficult to find a low-carb kibble. Kitties' fuel is protein, so we have to try to make sure they get a high protein diet in both their wet and dry food. I put a bowl of this next to my other cats food and she took to it right away. She only eats this food now and that was her choice. My only concern is she poops much less which may cause a problem with her anal sacs because pooping is what causes her anal sacs to expel. She already had a problem once where it got backed up and infected. Wouldn’t want that to happen again. They should add more fiber if possible without adding any carbs. ... show more

The clean protein chicken recipe, cat food is definitely worth the try. All four of my kit cat Mafiosas absolutely enjoy & LOVE this brand/recipe. What I like about the clean protein chicken dry food recipe is that the size of each nibble piece is not too large but just right (even for one of my more picky cats)- she prefers smaller pieces. No issues with the smell of the food. I also like that this brand/recipe helped clear up tummy issues of my more picky cat eater that also had a difficult start at the beginning of her life and as a result she is smaller and she must have access to a higher quality cat food. My other three cats also had slight tummy issues with other brands of cat food. What I do is pair this brand of high quality clean protein cat dry food with another high quality brand of wet food that my cats prefer. Even with using the dry food from this brand and pairing with another brand of wet food, my cats are thriving and do very well with the balance of high quality dry & wet feed. Their coats are amazing, and they have slimmed down. I also noticed a change in their stool in a positive way. I do wish this brand offered other sizes in addition to their 2lb or 6.6lb bags. Overall great product and definitely worth the try. I reccommend the smaller bag if you are considering transitioning your cat from its current food as you wean them off over a week or so by introducing the new food (a small amount of the new food at first) in the same food bowl with the soon to be old food and increase the amount of the newer food and lesson the amount of the older food (to see how your cat likes the food and how the cat does with the new food). I also recommend trying the clean chicken recipe before trying the clean protein salmon recipe- unless you know for sure that your cat prefers a fish recipe to chicken. Yes, this brand costs more than the main stream cat foods however, in my opinion, it's worth every penny and we get what we pay for, higher quality food can come at a higher price. Clean ingredients- great food for cats. As soon as I opened the bag, all 4 of my cats (males) came to see what it was. AND every single one took turns sticking their heads in the bag to take a bite: my cats have NEVER done this before with any type of dry cat food. Super filling because of the high protein, so the amount my cats are eating now is far less than other cat food brands. One of my younger cats has finally bulked up and gained weight, and the big fat cat has finally lost weight … both on this food. My other two cats have eaten similarly on this food as they have always ate on any other brands. My three cats could take or leave regular dry food, no matter what brand. The oldest (12) is having some health problems, so I decided to upgrade their wet and dry food to high-protein low-carb no-grain. They LOVE this stuff!
