Main Question: How does the ball go up/down? Answer: You can rotate the spool/gear manually. Pros: Loads of fun. Extra balls. Good quality. Great value for money. Works well with any age age that can hold a racket. The gear/spool feature is the best thing, next to the feature where you can snap it on a door jam. Cons: The paddles are not completely flat. They are very shiny and smooth. Extra Info: All the extra balls have a whole to replace the one snapped into the the actual product. The rubber band on pic is black. Real product has tan/yellow band and will most likely break easily but very replaceable. If your place has a exposed beams, they are better to use than the door jams. But you know that already. The media could not be loaded. This is a difficult toy to review. First, I really like the concept. It's less like ping pong and more like tetherball with a ping pong ball. As an adult I found it to be pretty boring to play with but my kids love it. They've had a blast playing with this over the past few weeks. We did find that it wasn't as much fun to play in a doorway because the opening limits the ball to just going back and forth. Hanging it in a wider space made it more fun. If you have a kid who struggles with sensory or hand eye coordination this is also a great OT toy! My 3 star complaints are more with the design. The ball is attached with a little plastic piece that snaps into a hole. If you hit the ball with force like you would playing real ping pong the pin comes out or the ball cracks near the hole. Even my kids have to intentionally be very gentle when hitting it. My 5 year old broke a ball in the first two minutes & has repeatedly knocked the clamp off the ceiling when he gives it a full whack. Thankfully this comes with 6 ping pong balls. It would also be pretty easy to just poke a hole in any ping pong ball so the balls cracking near the pin isn't a big deal. But a more secure way to attach the ball & perhaps a heavier ball would make it more fun because you could get the ball moving a little faster. The tension that holds the clip to the archway is just a simple rubber band. I actually love the simplicity of that because it's easy to replace. My issue is with the pads. They're a smooth soft foam. It definitely is good for the walls but it also doesn't really grip so the mechanism slides all over. Again this is an issue if you hit the ball with any real force. Rubber pads would've made it more sturdy. I don't mind spinning the little wheel to raise and lower the ball but that piece is just a simple spool. There's no spring tension inside. So when you twist it works like a gear shaped spool. Again in some ways this is good because theres no spring mechanism that's going to break but if you grab the ball and pull down you'll just pull the ball off the pin because of the resistance. You have to crank it down or pull it down by the string. Then you have to manually twist it back up. It's simple. Just a little tedious. Overall I think this makes a great OT exercise for hand eye coordination and even impulse control (hitting it gentle requires self control). It's 5 stars for that. It's also 5 stars for an easy and very portable rainy day activity for kids. It's very unique. My 3 stars is just the poor design that make it less fun and less durable. So overall it's 4 stars

Lightweight with fairly sturdy plastic panels. Works well when clipped to the door. Decent price for what you get. It comes with a lot of spare balls. No assembly required. Fun for 8 and up.

Not the most heavyweight thing, but it absolutely does work and fairly well. For the cost I don't care as much about it being a little lighter. So far so good, the winding is smooth and have not encountered any problems. I think it works better for solo practice personally, but it is very possible to do two player. Hoping this will help my son be more ready for ping pong at my inlaws, since he gets so little experience with it outside the holidays. It may not be a 1:1 skill transfer, but just helping him get where he can hit it with any consistency should help c: Came with lots of extra balls.

Lightweight and simple to use, this quick indoor game is a blast. Challenge your friends, take on your loved ones, and rally back and forth as you take to the door frame. Plastic but easy to use. Beware of hitting too hard or becoming too competitive as it isn't the strongest of material, but it makes for a great party game or indoor activity.
