Great quality, easy setup, and great for my dog. This product is better than other brands I have tried.

  • Great product for farm use, but with I didn't have to keep my phone connected
Size: Path 2
We live on a 16 acre farm with pastures, a wooded area and lots of cows and wild critters all around. We are remodeling and had to take some of our fences down so the property is not fully fenced. We like this product a lot and it has many features that we enjoy, plus a few that we don't. I recognize that this is intended more for hunting dogs and similar uses, so we are not necessarily using as directed, but with a tad bit more flexibility or functionality this product could be perfect for folks like us. What we love: 1) E-Fence Feature: The app has three different fence modes. Mobile Fence, Geo Fence and E-Fence. The product instructions don't clearly identify the difference between the three fence modes for some reason. I had to go to google to find out from somebody else. However, we use the E-Fence every day. Simply select E-Fence and you can use your finger on the map to draw the boundary for your fence. It's that simple. We drew a boundary around our property. When our dog gets close to the boundary I think he gets a vibration, then a zap. Now he knows to stop before he gets to the fence line or he'll get a surprise. On the plus side, the E-Fence boundary stays programmed into the app. On the negative side, I hate having to manually turn on the E-Fence feature every time I turn on the collar. Sometimes I forget and the dog has been found roaming in the neighbor's pasture a couple of times. 2) Long range. I haven't tested the 2 mile limit but I still get great range and it covers my whole farm. 3) Good batter life. The batteries last all day and part of the next day. Sometimes we forget to turn off the unit so I would say we probably get on average 24 hours of battery life on a charge. 4) Love the map feature on the app. I can see where my dog is, get alerted when he is running and so forth. 5) We love the fact that the collar has a light on it. When it's dark outside our dog is invisible without the collar on. It's nice to look out our door and see where he is at from a distance even without my phone in hand. Things we don't love: 1) While the app is convenient when I'm setting everything up or want to look at the map, I hate that it is required for operation. The app drains my phone batter really quickly. If I close the app the remote control starts beeping incessantly. Honestly, once I set up the E-Fence I would prefer to close the app unless I'm actively tracking our dog. 2) I hate that the E-Fence won't stay on if you turn the units off or close the app. It may not seem like a big deal, but it's tedious to remember to turn on the E-Fence and I sometimes forget. Also, my wife is not tech savvy and can't figure out how to use the app anyway (therefore it is only on my phone) making the whole thing useless if I'm not home. 3) Frustrating that my phone and the app need to be within Bluetooth distance of the remote for the whole thing to work. This really needs a feature that allows the system to lock in the settings without the phone around. Like it or not, we use this as a tool to keep our dog from wandering off if we leave the farm to go grocery shopping or something. I can't leave my phone home just to keep the collar working. 4) the E-Fence boundary is not super accurate. The map appears to use a Google Maps image (or some similar service). I can zoom in pretty good and set the boundary but in practice the boundaries are sometimes as much as 50 to 80 feet off of the fence lines even though the fence lines appear quite dead on in the app. Overall we really like the collar. It does it's job and we use it every day. I think it is well worth the money after considering several other products. While we don't use it strictly as intended, it suits our needs just fine. There are some things that I would recommend to the manufacturer though by way of improvement: 1) As mentioned above, provide a feature that allows a user to lock in the settings so that the remote can function without being connected to the app. 2) It's great that this unit identifies when a dog is running. Can you also add a feature to identify when he is digging? How about when he is barking? This is a training collar and it would be great if we could use it to train for those other things too. ... show more

  • Does what I need very well.
Size: Path 2 - 2 Dogs
TLDR: it's pricey for 2 dogs, but it has excellent range and good precision on controls. I use it for two German Shorthairs to keep them on track on our beach adventures. One of my pups really wanted to invade people's space and poo bomb their yards. These collars put a stop to that. Definitely waterproof, my girl proves that every day. Has all the features one would expect in a top of the line e-collar. Beep, buzz, adjustable zap, waterproof, rugged, good battery life, excellent range (9 miles!). Also, although the smartphone connection thing takes getting used to, you end up with great stats and feedback. Today, I went 2.25 miles, my boy went 3.35 miles, and my girl went 3.5 miles. There are optional notifications for things like pointing and barking if your dogs are not in view. If you have lots of pups, this is way cool because you can track 20+ dogs at once (although cannot imagine working the interface with that many). As with all e-collars, zap is the last resort and rarely used. My only real complaints are with the smartphone interface: 1- you have to switch back and forth between dogs to beep/buzz/zap. I compensate for this by a lot of hyper vigilance and assessment of upcoming temptations to have the proper dog already selected. 2-the interface is kind of small for the pups so I have to be careful not to fat finger it and confuse the dogs. Obviously, training makes all of this better, but with smart dogs, they know when they're wearing the collar and when they aren't. ... show more

  • It fully and robustly worked, has several days battery life, and doesn't make me sign in
Size: Path 2
I'm using this tracker for fully off grid multi-day backcountry splitboarding. I previous used a cheaper old Findster tracker, but that had only 10 hours of battery life and (worse!) it would randomly make me sign into an app, which I could only do with internet access. This Dogtra is of course bigger, but has 10x better range and battery life, especially if you set the GPS update time to 2 minutes. It's expensive, but still significantly cheaper than the Garmin alternative. Anyway, I fully tested this out for my use case recently and it worked flawlessly. Thanks for making a quality BS-free product. ... show more

  • Big Hassle
Size: Path 2 Mini
The device is built very well and has good range. Unfortunately, it is a huge hassle to actually use the thing. It is very hit or miss whether you can pair the three devices together. Worst of all, you have to repeat the pairing process every time you use it. If you’re using it on the rare occasion when you take your dog out in the wild, it’s probably fine, but it is definitely not a solution for an e-fence around your property. It’s just too big a hassle. ... show more
