    • Great Inexpensive Functional Melter - Used Mine for Pewter
I have always wanted to get into metal casting. Years ago I discovered cold metal casting (mixing very fine metal powder with resin) to get a desired effect in a cost-effective manner. However, the lure of pouring actual molten metal was always calling in the background. This great little device allows for small projects to do exactly that - melt pewter, lead, and metals with similar melting points.     • Temp adjustment?
While this works great for lead, but I'm using it more for other alloys with lower melting points and sensitivity issues so I've integrated a PID controller to handle temperature control. The stand is kinda scary, the heavy cord likes to tug on the pot and the stand doesn't provide much stability. It's got old world charm and simplicity but I'd love to see an enhanced model offered.     • It did what it was intended for very well. I liked it except for the ballance.
I will give this a 4star rating. It melts well As for the tipping mentioned earlier by another, it is caused be the handle outweighing the pot and element. I solved this by clamping the cord in such a way as to put pressure up on the handle I used it for 2hrs and it worked very well. I would definitely recommend this to a friend L.E.     • Get Really Hot!
The molds that I have require that you use a hand pour ladle to get past the spinnerbait wire. I don't like that feature as it would have been easy for them to have the sprue on the bait on the other side away from the wire like many other Do-It molds. Anyway, the size is great and it is not too heavy. It pours really easy so be careful or you get over-pours really easy on the smaller baits. It also gets really hot and could benefit from a rheostat or other temperature control device. If I were younger, I would build in my own temperature controller. This means as it is, you will need to unplug it after about 15 to 20 minutes and then plug it back in after about the same time. If you are going to pour more than 30 or 40 lures then this could be a problem for you. I have pot with a trip lever but can't use it with the Do-It molds. As for volume, I have poured at least 75 3/8 and 1/2 ounce fishing lures and still have half the volume of lead alloy left in the pot. I wish I had purchased years ago as the bottom pour pot has been leaking for years. ... show more

    • I love this little pot
I love this little pot, it works like it should, and is easy to use just be careful not to get burned because it all gets hot except for the handle. The only negative is the size, it won't hold a lot of material in it. But I knew that when I made my purchase. It is a keeper for the small jobs I do.

I loved this product! Its so easy and it is a perfect size. I got it for pewter casting and its been amazing. And a great price. Only thing is the stand is a little iffy but considering your going to be dealing with liquid hot metals you should be handling with care anyways so if your not being careless it will be fine! ... show more

Melts pewter beautifully. Watch pewter for overheating, as lead melts higher. No temperature settings—Plugged in, is ON. It’s a bit slow to warm up but not an issue for me. Initial heating burns off manufacturing oils. Finally getting work done in the winter, indoors!
