Update: To be sure that the drawers lock closed when the top lid is shut - With the top lid open, press in the drawers in (closed) a bit with your hand even if they look closed. Then while doing that close the top lid. You will then find that the drawers are now locked closed as long as the top lid is closed. It is a slight nuisance but is not a significant problem in my opinion. This might explain why some reviewers have noted a problem with the drawers not locking closed if their unit is like mine. Original Review: I got this to replace an old plastic Craftsman tool box that outgassed and smelled terrible inside - making my tools stink. I keep mostly small electronics tools in it and it's the perfect size for that. I use this particular tool box in the home which is why the original one was plastic - I didn't want it to scratch the table or furniture I set it on. This tool box is about perfect size for a set of small tools or a modest set of average sized hand tools. The dimensions are exactly as described. The finish is good, the drawers lock closed with the top closed so you can safely carry it around. It seems appropriately sturdy for the size it is. I have two recommendations to optimize its use - Add plastic corner protectors on the bottom 4 corners to avoid scratching what you set it on. Add a silicone rubber liner sheet to the bottoms of the drawers (about 1/16 inch thick) to reduce the likelihood of tools rolling around making noise when you carry it (ordinary rubber tends to outgas and smell unpleasant). This tool box is exactly what I needed - The drawers make organizing small tools easier which means less time searching for the tool you need. It's sturdy enough for my use and just the size I needed. It would have gotten 5 stars if it came with non-marring, non-marking feet. For home use of a smallish toolbox you don't want to mark the table or furniture you set it on

I was looking for a secure locked tool box for my work tools. There have been unauthorized use of my personal tools at work and to prevent that, I got this. It does have a key to "lock" the drawers but I've noticed that if the box isn't on a level surface, the drawers don't lock. The locked part only really locks the top layer, which is the black part of the box. I'm not worried with people breaking into the box but if you're looking for something more secure, this isn't it. Also, the two clips that snap back over the two hatches are made really poorly, they fell off during opening of the packaging. Since this thing is so big and a bit heavy, I didn't want to hassle with the return.

When the lid is closed, it locks the 3 drawers below! So, the lid must always be opened in order to open any of the drawers...bad design!! (I measured the usable space, which is 1308 cu. in. = 0.76 cu. ft.)

I got it because it was small and I’m able to lock up my personal tools I bring to work. It’s thin metal, the bottom drawer and top box lock great. The middle drawer is hit or miss. Lockable is a perk to this buy. Not for capacity in any way.
