Excellent book because I have basic mechanical knowledge this book is written in lamens terms, with I like. This will give any half wit person the knowledge they need to understand the battery building fundamentals. This book is written as a friend explaining the basics of lithium batteries. It teaches you the calculations needed to design battery packs a voltage ranges. The reason people are not liking this book is because battery building is not a exact constant voltage and I’m sure this confuses newbie battery DIY’ers But the book does explain this and give knowledge that there are ranges and these are not designed for every application. The book is a great stepping stone of knowledge and by no means meant to be a replacement for a electrical engineer. Use knowledge with a degree of understanding and consult an electrician if you feel uncertain with your design or if your application use area could cause harm in the event of a failure. This is also sated in the book this is a stepping stone basic knowledge book. This book gave me the knowledge I was looking for after attempting to search you tube with no luck find detailed knowledge. This book connected the dots on my understanding. I would definitely recommend this book for beginners to get the staring knowledge and concepts here to see if you wanna take the next step.

There’s a lot of good information in this book, and it is geared for ebikes. It’s important to understand the basics of batteries if you want to build a bike and, in particular, a battery. The book discusses, rather briefly, why you can’t build an ebike battery with the spring type battery holders people use for AA cells. They are just not electrically efficient enough to work. Ideally, people would learn the basics about the cells. This concerns proper charging and then matching cells and cell configuration to the discharge needs of a specific bike. If you know how to do this, the next hurdle is to assemble a pack from cells. I keep hoping there will be what I call the “insta-pack”. The Instapack is something you could use to assemble the pack without a spot welder. The author has a version of this, there is the BatteryBlocs system, and there is an Indian version similar to the Blocs system. I really hope something like this catches on. I don’t see the general public wanting to spot weld packs. This book lays out the dangers in minute detail. You could almost say this book discourages assembling a pack with a welder. Ideally we will end up in a world where people can DIY an ebike battery. The first place to stop would be this book. I’m hoping people won’t need spot welders. If people could buy cells from reliable vendors, at good prices, and assemble them in a couple of hours, it would change the ebike world. DIY is the only way to go for a good ebike at a decent price. I’ve built three and they are very reliable. The problems I run into are the stresses of going quite a bit faster. You need suspensions and you need to get ergonomic bars. I’m not locked into a design. I change stuff all the time. This is a serious book about ebikes. If you think you are interested in ebikes, buy this book. It will tell you what ebikes really are about, even if you never touch a spot welder. It’s a march of technology and the limited needs of an ebike match the cells that are out there. So ebikes are kind of the cutting edge, and the tech works. But it’s not simple and it’s worth understanding, just for the nuances of charging and life cycles of packs.

This should be considered "the bible" for folks that want to build an ebike and learn the vast amount of knowledge it takes to get there. Micah's easy writing style sets the pace for what can only be described as the definitive collection for the subject. The technical aspects of the build, which are extremely necessary to grasp, are laid out with care, covering every important aspect and limiting the risk of sailing right over the readers head by creating the perfect mix of "beginner" advice with a healthy but not overwhelming amount of electrical theory to keep the reader's attention. Not an easy task, but Micah pulls it off brilliantly. This is the book you need if you want to build a machine. Read it multiple times and get the basic knowledge ingrained before making a costly or even painful mistake. Micah can get you there. His videos on Youtube are also extremely well done, moving at a pace that can only be described as perfect for the new builder. He has put in countless hours for this endeavor with a real emphasis on helping people do this correctly. That really shows if you take time to delve into any of his excellent material. Thanks Micah, because of you I have built two quality machines, and have totally enjoyed the experience.

~A very insightful and helpful book for a great price! Regarding this subject matter, knowledge is power and safety rolled into one. The author writes from extensive experience in a very easy to follow format that includes multiple diagrams and learning examples. If you are new to Li-ion, do NOT attempt such DIY projects without gaining the proper (precautionary) knowledge this guide (or others like it) offer. There is no room for ignorance, carelessness, or mistakes when it comes to Lithium batteries. And thus, NO excuse when such a valuable resource book is available. Upon careful study, diligent focus and adherence to the wise advice/guidance presented, one shall advance forward with confidence (while avoiding dangerous pitfalls)... to construct safe, reliable, and high performance Li-Ion battery (pack) builds to match whatever power requirements your given project needs...
