  • Portable with Plenty of Power
Even with a 3-car garage, space is at a premium, so I purchased this to replace one of the big, wheeled models that took up too much space and had such an unwieldy hose. The Dewalt fits on a shelf, has a nice, long power cord, and the hose has a smaller diameter, very flexible, making it much more manageable. Everything packs up well on the vacuum and is easy to carry with one hand. Plenty of power for cleaning up the garage floor. This one is also a lot more convenient for vacuuming out the vehicles. ... show more

  • USE THE BAG!!!
I have a woodworking garage with a table saw, a chop saw, a sander, an orbital sander, a planer, a router …there’s a lot of sawdust around. I needed a plan. This Dewalt DXV04T 4 gallon was the perfect size to fit on a shelf underneath my Dewalt chop saw, and Dewalt is a very reliable brand. I got an additional, longer hose with multiple “attachers” so I could switch out between most of my tools. (I have a separate standing vacuum for the table saw, but at 4”, it’s dedicated to the table saw and planer. I also have the ubiquitous wet/dry shop vac, but as others have said, it’s annoyingly large to use for everything.) I upgraded the filter and, not thinking much of it, didn’t put in the vacuum bag. (Why would I? My other shop vac doesn’t use a bag!) Result: for two years, I got very weak suction. I thought it was because I was using a 20’ hose. Real reason? The air filter clogged AND the dust/chips buried the filter. I would half heartedly empty the whole thing, and try again.l, thinking, well, at least SOME of the dust is take away. When I was on Amazon today, looking for a shorter hose, I looked up this vacuum and saw a review with pictures of the bag. A clue flew in the window and hit me upside my head. Oh, yeah…the bag…. Pro: very portable, very compact, very durable (I’ve dropped it. On cement.) And once the bag is in, good suction even with the longer hose. I’ve hooked mine up to a start button fob/outlet plug-in, so no matter where I am (long hose) I can turn it off and on. I like the review that tells how to take off the wand mounts. But everything is really contained. Meh: the cord wrap and the emptying process. It, too, is recessed into the unit. Others have said that it can’t be wrapped when it’s on the floor. I keep most of it wrapped when it’s on the shelf. But when it’s time to empty it, what a pain. Mostly my fault, because I have to pull it out from the shelf, negotiate the hose and the cord while trying not to dump it on the floor. (Ideally, I’d have 3 hands,) Con: not too many. It’s not silent, so I definitely use ear protection when I’m using it with a power tool. Buying replacement bags is annoying, but sometimes I cheat and reuse a bag. Putting the top back on is more challenging than the big shop vac, due to the proportionally smaller body, and it doesn’t always sit in flush, which causes the hinged closures to be out of alignment. I do eventually get it. But the bag needs to be changed out often. These are all minor issues, tho, and aren’t a deal breaker for me. Final say: Definitely a keeper. I’d say that this is a must-have. Even if you lived in an apartment, and wanted this for your car, it easily fits in a closet. But don’t make my mistake! Use the bag! ... show more

  • Excellent - Compact but powerful
Excellent power in a brilliantly designed compact package. Same power and capacity as my old shop vac but much more compact and easy to use. DeWalt did it right on this.

  • Happy with it so far
I just got this and have only used it once, but it worked well to vacuum out a gross shed where I'd overwintered some plants. The suction was reasonable, though somewhat less than I expected--I think this might have been user error, though. If it's better once I have had time to trouble-shoot, I'll come back and rate this 5 stars. I bought this refurbished, and it was in great shape. The price was good too! I didn't need perfect portability, so I got the plug-in version. I love that it comes with basic attachments with on-board storage! Everything is in one place and easily accessible--handy! This is a really loud machine, and I wear hearing protection when using it. ... show more

  • Excellent for the price with no obvious drawbacks
First, I just want to address other reviewers saying the bag(s) that come with/are made for this vacuum are "useless" because of their shape/size -- that's simply not true. The U-shaped bag is both intentional and necessary, as it allows the bag to expand around the cartridge dust filter (see attached photo). It does of course limit the size of the bag, but if you're vacuuming up things you don't want to breath in (e.g. lead paint dust/chips, drywall dust, fine wood sanding dust, etc.), having the contents empty into a sealed bag is the best option (as emptying the naked bin into the trash also exposes you to the dust, which defeats the purpose). Also, the bags don't leak, as they have a filter fabric lining inside the paper, contrary to what others have claimed. So in summary: the bags work, they are good, and they have a purpose (if you value your lungs and plan to suck up toxic/harmful dust). With that in mind, it's a pretty excellent shop vac for the price, as it has very good suction, the option to run with or without a bag (good for wet lift or general non-toxic debris), and it even has decent accessory options to boot. For instance, I've run my vac with a Bosch orbital sander using the bag and the optional DeWalt HEPA filter, and I get no dust leakage whatsoever -- much nicer than wearing a respirator all the time and having dust coat everything in the garage. Another worthwhile accessory is the Cen-Tec Systems 1 1/4" Quick Click hose, which adapts the vacuum port down to the more common 1 1/4" diameter for tools and allows easy/quick connection with pretty much any tool that has a dust port. Finally, I've seen others complaining that additional bags aren't available for this vacuum, but that doesn't seem to be the case (at least as of summer 2022). I ordered a 3-pack of the DeWalt DXVA25-4040 bags here on Amazon for $15, and I also found third-party bags in a 6-pack for $14 (KEEPOW DXVA25-4040 4 Gallon Shop Vac Bags) without any hassle. So if you want bags, you know, just buy them. In any case, it's a good vacuum for around $100 with plenty of suction, integrated hose and attachment storage, and even does decent stand-in duty as a dust extractor for power tools if you invest another $75 in a 1 1/4" hose, more bags, and a HEPA cartridge filter. My only qualm is that it's a little loud, but it's similar to other vacuums of the size/price and suction power, so it's hard to complain. ... show more

  • Suprisingly Well Built, Good Engineering in the Design
Mine does a great job of sucking the ashes and soot out of my pellet smoker. I'm pretty impressed! PRO- - LONG, relatively flexible power cord. Neither the wire nor the insulation seem stiff. More like true rubber and copper, old style vacuum cord. - Good hidden storage for the two tool attachments. The tools don't stick out to snag things. - Great, flexible, large diameter suction hose. It's like a slinky with a covering. Pull it a long distance from the vacuum without pulling the machine along with it. - Surprisingly great hose storage cubby. The entire hose is "swallowed" by the overall box shape of the vacuum unit. Nothing sticks out. - Main body of the vacuum, the plastic box, seems very stout. Much thicker than a 5 gal bucket. Good mating, seal, and latches between the upper and lower halves, where the filter and sucked up junk lives. - Sucks the chrome off a trailer hitch, as they'd say in the south. It's got tons of power. You can blow leaves with it in reverse. CONS- - (No longer a con, see below) Wand storage brackets add maybe 4 inches to the width of the unit. If you don't use the wands, it would be great to be able to remove the brackets and make the overall footprint smaller. Perhaps that's possible and I haven't found the fastening scheme yet. EDIT - I have found the fastening scheme for the wand hooks. Very simple. Just separate the two halves of the vacuum, like you're checking the filter, and look into the area where the hooks live. It's real obvious. Stick a flat blade screwdriver in there and pry the little tab and remove the brackets. Reinstall any time, they just click into place. - Cord storage hooks are on the short side of the unit, very close together, and nearly flush with the bottom of the vacuum. You can't wrap the cord while the vacuum sits on the floor. To wrap the cord requires either picking up the vacuum in one hand and wrapping cord with the other, or placing the vacuum on the edge of a bench, with the cord wrap area hanging off the edge. I'd like to see the cord wrap hooks higher and farther apart (less wraps to secure the cord). Perhaps mounted on the long side of the vacuum instead of the short end. Perhaps even interchangeable with the wand mount brackets. The pros far outweigh the cons for my application. I'm happy with mine. ... show more

  • Good quality and strong suction by my estimation. Would buy again.
This shopvac is the bees knees. Suction feels super solid and the it is light enough to carry up and down attics. Would buy again.
