Top Amazon Reviews

  • EXCELLENT!!!
If you have done the research as I did before purchasing or considering, then you have read most of the reviews here at Amazon and elsewhere and have viewed most of the videos. With that in mind, I used my Dewalt DCF899M1 today for the first time. (I wanted to be specific, so there is no confusion about the product in this review.) Yes. It is "Proudly Made in the USA." The impact wrench has the sticker on top and in the upper right hand corner of the box and on the side of the Dewalt Storage Bag - all as seen in the pictures and video(s) Yes. It's heavy which is good. It's an IMPACT wrench. It has a lot of torque. Imagine trying to hold on to the unit under extreme torque without the weight. Quality? You better believe it!! I'm a DIY yet I have compared this unit to friends' impact wrenches with the same name as the city in Wisconsin. (NOTE: Those are quality units too.) They were impressed and also a bit envious of the price I paid compared to what they paid for their units. (They are professional exotic car technicians.) I suppose it comes down to whether or not you believe that price always has a direct correlation to quality. This Dewalt impact wrench, in my opinion, demonstrates that "Made in America" can mean both "quality" and "value" (or very good value). In all fairness, there are good "quality" tools made in foreign countries under the guidance and design engineering of American companies which is good too. BUT.... the jobs being created are overseas. It's time to bring some (if not all) of those jobs home which is another reason why I bought my DeWalt. By the way, to Amazon's credit my impact wrench was shipped and delivered FAAAAAST!!! It was delivered one day earlier than expected. So... If you want quality and durability I highly recommend the Dewalt DCF899M1 unit. You will not be disappointed. NOTE: The additional product details are somewhat confusing. The "Country of Origin: China" possibly may be true for some of the units sold here. Mine definitely displays Made in the USA. As I recall, if a product is made elsewhere it cannot have Made in the USA stickers. Hope this helps.... ... show more

  • Overall it seems like a quality product (DCF899M1).
My first impression is that it seems like a quality product (DCF899M1), and it passed my first test of removing the lugs bolts from a wheel on my car. The tool is heavy and sturdy as I would expect. The wrench has 3 selectable "speeds" which are actually maximum torque levels. According to the manual, the max torques are 100, 300, 700 ft-lbs for speeds #1, 2 and 3, respectively. The carrying bag is a thick cloth material which seems durable enough to hold up for a while. This model uses a detent-pin to retain the socket, and I found it easy to remove the socket by using a small tool to depress the pin through the hole in the socket, as described in the manual. I always tighten my car wheel lug bolts about as tight as I can get them by using both hands on a cross-type spanner wrench (so I don't know exactly what torque was applied the last time I tightened them). I was maybe a little worried at first when the wrench didn't loosen the lug bolts when on speed #1 or speed #2, but then all five bolts came right out on speed #3. But it does make me wonder a bit about those torque values, being that the bolts didn't loosen on speed #2 (300 ft-lbs), because I don't think made them that tight. Then again, they can build up some "sticksion" on the threads and under the bolt head due to corrosion. Last comment is that I thought the tool was very loud when using. May be a good idea to use ear protection. ... show more

  • Has the power when needed
I love this! Beats the heck out of long breaker bars and jumping up and down to break difficult bolts. Now it's just a matter of slipping on the right socket, fitting it to the nut and pressing the trigger. ZAP! Off comes the fastener and I just grin. Well Worth the money especially when I consider all the sore or pulled muscles it has saved me. There should be one in everyone's tool box. I even carry it in my vehicle in case there is someone on the side of the road or parking lot who needs help. Grins everywhere. ... show more

  • Questionable Batteries? Update/Operator Error
This DeWALT 20V impact wrench is rated at 700 ft-lb - DeWalt DCF899M1 wrench kit. I also purchased a spare 5AH battery #DCB205. I am using these for lug nuts on my F350 that need to be torqued to 165 ft-lbs. This impact wrench does not get the lug nuts up to 165 ft-lbs but gets close; I have to hand torque the lug nuts anyway. At first, neither battery I received seems to be capable of being charged fully even after 24 hours. The 4AH battery showed 1 light in the "fuel gauge" and the 5AH battery showed only 2 lights. The charger appears to be working correctly, with it starting a charge, but when the charger indicates complete, the battery still only shows 1 or 2 lights respectively. I registered the tool and batteries on the DeWALT web site and then called them on the phone during their business hours. Update: I received a call from a DeWalt customer service agent who was very helpful. It turns out that you must push the batteries FIRMLY into the charger past a plastic detent until you hear a loud "click". If you do not hear the click, the battery is not fully seated. Yes, the charger will appear to be working with the correct lights, but the battery will not be charged until you get it fully loaded. Once this was done, the batteries quickly charged and I now get 3 full lights on the fuel gauge. There is no indication of this in the user's manual. If your batteries are not charging, MAKE SURE TO PUSH THEM FIRMLY INTO THE CHARGER UNTIL YOU HEAR THEM "CLICK" INTO PLACE." I'm changing my review to 5 starts for a nice tool and excellent customer service. ... show more
