I use this buffer daily. I use the Rupes pads and cutting creams. It does an awesome job removing scratches and scuffs on automotive paint. As other reviewers have said, if you’re doing full cars you should get a corded model. I have done full cars with this one and it takes 4/5 5ah batteries to complete the job. I have multiple Dewalt tools that require a fair amount of power and have found that you need at least a 5ah battery. If you try to use the smaller batteries, you will drain them almost immediately and will hate the tool. The bigger the battery, the longer it lasts (obviously) but the weight difference is shocking. If you’re doing spot work, I recommend a couple of 5ah batteries and you will be happy. I carry my equipment in a backpack and by the end of the day every extra pound feels compounded. Most of my work is spot repair. I do mobile paint chip and scratch repair. The cordless model allows me to work on vehicles without being near a power source. It has plenty of power when you put a lot of pressure on it and the overall balance is great. Over the last couple of months, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. ... show more

I was looking for a polisher for my car and this came to mind. I already have a 5Ah battery and charger so I only needed the tool. Going cordless is great, hard to put into words but you can move faster around a car. When using a corded tool I find the cord is always getting stuck under a tire or something. If you set the cord over the car hood or roof it tends to mark the surface or create light scratches. Which is not a big deal but when polishing a car you are trying to remove scratches. The polishing action is good, I get a great shine using this Polisher. There are a couple negatives, first the polishing pad is 5 inches. That is an odd size, I could not find this size anywhere. Amazon has some 6" pads that they say work on the 5" plates. DeWalt did not have anything available. I tried the 6" pads and they work. The second negative, the pad is too large for polishing all parts of a car. It is difficult to get under the door handle of the car. This is a place where you need a polisher because that area gets scratched. I found you need a second smaller polisher for detailing a car. Some areas of a car can be hand polished but after you see the results of a power polisher you will want more than hand polishing can deliver. But one of those buffing tips for a drill may be sufficient to use in combination with this polisher. The polisher is slow enough to do a good job and not burn through the paint. The speed is variable but I typically use the slowest speed. The results vs hand polishing are substantial. You will polish a car like you have never before by hand. It is amazing and fast. The 5Ah battery lasted the entire car with some battery left. You might need two batteries if doing a large truck but one should work for most cars. ... show more

    • Lots of use and keeps going!
This thing works Great! Lots of speed control adjustment. I have hours and hours of use on this thing, polishing my boats and trucks, and it keeps going strong. It does get heavy when using it a lot, but it is a trade off I was aware of when getting a cordless polisher.

Perfect for polishing automobiles. It's a bit heavy but it is very easy to use. Speed control works well. I used 4AH batteries with mine and it lasted nearly all day. Quality tool from DeWalt.
