  • Must buy for anyone

For price this is great for anything but paint! I’ve had this gun for over a year and it’s well built, if you are just getting into paint work this is a great gun for primer!!!

  • Wow! Good spray guns to start with for the price!
Size: 2.7
The media could not be loaded. Wow! For the price compared to other HVLP top line spray guns it is nice ! I bought a DeVibiss Plus+ and I want to say the Startingline spray gun did better! Maybe because the settings were easier to set? But I paint metallic black-chrome and pearl blue white on my mowers. I used both the detail gun and the base spray gun that came with the kit. The case I also love. It holds the items well. Only cons i can say is that some parts of the spray guns feels like plastic and to remove the spray tips with care. Also the detail gun spray needle leaked , but I fix it by lubricating the end of the spring-needle because it was dragging in the port. Just buy it if you do not want spend a lot of money on the high end spray guns. I recommend to have the lower knob: fan open wide and the fluid knob on the top almost closed or one to two turns open. I used a Mikita 5.2gal 3hp compressor. I paint one panel at a time with 20psi. Amazing results! Highly recommend ! ... show more

  • Good deal, made well and does a good job for me at the non professional level.
Size: 2.7
For an entry level kit, this thing rocks. I'm from the old siphon feed paint gun days and changed over to HVLP a couple years ago when I got back into painting. Problem was, the guns I got were really crappy designs and builds - unbeknownst to me. I was having one heck of a time laying down clears, especially satin and flat. Some of my larger metal flakes were a bit wonky too. On a whim, I decided to get these and see what happened. My old siphon was a DeVilbiss, so I figured I'd give them a go. Man am I glad I did. Talk about a world of difference. I've put down some pearls, color flake clear and satin clear that came out perfect. Talk about making an old fart that was out of practice look good. My base coats even look better now. I don't know if these would hold up to professional use on a daily basis. But, for doing a few bikes or cars a year, these will do it. ... show more

  • Great for beginners!
Size: 2.7
I did a good amount of research and narrowed down my search to this spray gun, with the assistance of a paint and body professional that I know. The price was amazing, and everything was of good quality. Setup was as expected and the literature that comes with the kit explains the initial setup well. I did a few practice sprays before doing my first actual project. Everything worked out great and thos was a very easy gun to use. I am verh happy with the spray pattern and cannot wait to tackle a larger job! ... show more

  • Great quality for the money
Size: 2.7
First time sprayer here. I watched tons of youtube videos before i started anything. The one channel that helped me most was 'the gunman.' Since owning this gun, I have upgraded to the Tekna prolite. It doesn't spray as well to the trained eye, but it can still put out glass like finishes if you have the settings dialed in. I wouldn't recommend any air compressor below 9cfm at 40psi. I had to upgrade mines to a 60 gallon which can do 14cfm at 40psi and the gun came to life after giving it more air. The sprays were more consistent and results are still stunningly beautiful. at 65-75 degrees, on the big gun; i have fan knob open all the way, and fluid knob open 3.5 turns out, at 30psi. Having a good prep and testing on test panel helps a lot before you start spraying your project. If you're unsure just watch 'the gunman' a million times and eventually it'll sink in as it did to me. This is a great gun for the price. Good luck! ... show more

  • Did not work, 100% failure, had to be a machinest to fix it
Size: 2.7
Bought this name brand gun over the other choices that were half the price because I did not want to risk my paint job just to save a 100 bucks. The big day came when all the prep work was done and my 1976 VW bus was ready to paint with a 2K urethane primer followed by color coat. Opened up my brand new DeVILBISS HVLP box and inspected my shiny new toy. Pulled the trigger, the needle pulled back, released the trigger and the needle stayed right where it was, it was stuck open. Lucky for me I discovered this during a dry test. Had there been mixed and activated paint in the gun it would have been much much worse. The paint needle was getting stuck in the "housing" because the manufacturing tolerances were so poor. I tried both the 1.3 and 1.8 needles, both got stuck the same way. I decided to try to save and repair the defective gun by drilling out the housing. Fortunately a fractional drill was just the right size to chase out the housing to a proper clearance fit with the needle and problem solved. My second complaint, where is the regulator? It does not have one. It _looks_ like it does but that's only a flow control. You _must_ use a regulator at the gun to keep a steady pressure. The regulator at the compressor is useless due to pressure drops through the air hose. and the air volume control? Also missing. It has a place for one but its plugged up. Pretty sure their plan is to rely on the "flow control that looks like a regulator but is not a regulator" device. All in all I wish I had bought the cheaper TCP that came with 3 guns, that came with a regulator and dryer/filter, and the guns have real air flow controls. If I had to drill out parts of that gun I would not be upset as for the price what can you expect? But drilling out parts of a DeVILBISS gun? Unacceptable. UPDATE AFTER REPAIRING AND USING After I fixed the factory defect I used the gun to spray a 2K primer and 2K single stage color coat. The gun was reliable and worked well producing a nice cigar shaped spray pattern. I used the 1.8 nozzle for the primer and the 1.3 nozzle for the color coat. I added a regulator/water trap right at the gun and set the dynamic (as in with trigger pulled and air flowing) pressure at 30 PSI. My only complaint is that I would have preferred a clear paint cup. You can not see the amount of paint left in your cup with the supplied aluminum cup and if you run out mid spray you will end up with a poor finish in that area. Ask me how I know :) Tip for painting a VW bus or any vehicle with long horizontal surfaces is to spray the sides top to bottom and not left to right. I only realized this after I finished, pretty sure it would have resulted in a higher quality finish with less sand + polish. Note you have to rotate the nozzle 90 degrees to make your cigar fan pattern horizontal. ... show more
